Short breaks

Hi All
Fairly new to trusted housesitters and so far have has one sucessfull sit which i was very pleased with ( thanks Pepsi)
My question is i live in Spain ( Costa Blanca) and dont always want to go away for a week or Two and wondered if there are any local sitters that would be happy to do a few days mid week or weekends however my furbaby needs specialised care as he is diabetic and blind and needs medication and 2 insulin injections daily so suited to someone who has experience in doing injections on animals or humans .
Many thanks Denise x

I hope I’m wrong, but I suspect you’ll struggle to find the right person/people for shorter sits since you need quite a specific skillset.

Have you considered approaching local veterinary practices? My friend used to have a nurse drop by to look after her diabetic cat whenever she was away. Maybe that would be a good option for you for the shorter term sits?

Best of luck. x

Hello @DENISE64. Welcome to TrustedHousesitters, and thanks for joining us here in the forum. I’m glad you’ve already completed your first sit successfully – well done!

I sat for an elderly cat who needed daily insulin shots, and picked up the skill fairly easily. Other sitters might not be comfortable doing that. I’ve also sat with two elderly cats, one of whom needed subcutaneous fluid administration. Since I’d never done that before and it was more involved than giving a simple injection, the pet parents had a vet tech come to the house every few days to take care of it. That was a win-win for everyone!

So you might be able to find sitters who are comfortable giving injections, but, as @Pips suggested, your listing will be enticing to more sitters if you can find someone local who can step in to do the injections while the sitter is there.

I agree with Pips. We know a lady who has two dogs with separation anxiety and needs sitters for short sits once a month (ca. 4 days). She advertises on THS but has a backup plan (paid sitter in her area). Only occasionally she is actually successful on THS. It might be similar for you. We have 30+ years experience with cats but have so far avoided diabetic cats since we don’t have that kind of skill set (and it would be super stressful for us). Blind kitties on the other hand should be fine for most people (speaking from our perspective, currently cuddling one blind cat).

Hi Karen
I should have mentioned my fur baby is a dog not a cat but thank you for your reply
