Sit reminders update

Hi, wanted to let people know as I was updating my welcome guide and wanted to update the sit reminder calendar for garbage pickup and other important reminders. I couldn’t find it on the site so reached out support. It is now only available through the app. Definitely disappointing, would like it to be available on the website and app. Both sitter and owner need to have the app installed to use this function now.

Yes, the website and the app should have the same functions all the way around.

Speaking of a calendar, as a sitter, I really appreciate it when the host/owner provides a clear and simple calendar for me. Maybe I am “old school,” but I like the physical paper rather than a digital version.

This almost never happens, so I make my own, including things like:

Garbage day
Water plants on patio
Water indoor plants
House cleaner
Gardener
Pool guy
Fish tank guy
Beekeeper
Dog walker
Owner arrives X date at Y time

Online, it is easy to find free printable pages of a blank calendar.

I don’t use the Welcome Guide because it is worthless. So in addition to having my own word documents – one for home care, one for pet care, one for neighborhood resources – I have my own calendar type reminders for pet meds, or home issues like trash/recycling on my fridge.

I think this flags up a much wider question: The difference between the app and the website.

I’m prehistoric, so I always do everything via websites, rather than apps, if possible. But I do feel vindicated where THS is concerned, because I find the app slower and far less user-friendly in many ways than the website. For example, a sit I recently applied for disappeared completely from the app.. And there was no way I could trace it. Whereas online, I could easily go to my Inbox and track it down that way.

It worries me that everyone - THS included - is forcing us to conduct our lives via inadequate little systems on a weeny hand-held brain substitute. Apps have their uses, sure. But long live CHOICE!

Agreed, I always print out everything for the sitter so I just updated a calendar with the reminders and printed it out for her

Oh dear, that’s a huge disappointment, a lot of our owners have been at a ‘certain’ age, whereby they don’t use the app, like me!

I do NOT use the TH app. And will not. And I tell HO/PP that I don’t. All because of what I’ve read here in the Forum about differences, glitches, bugs, and other problems. THe website itself has enough of those at times.

Generally, apps are safer to use than websites.

@OnTheRoadAgain Safer? How curious. However, safety is not my concern. The TH app just seems to be clunkier than the website. I keep reading about what it can’t do, and how it differs from the website. But if the app is your preference, that’s fine.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for sharing your feedback on this.

I’ve passed it over to the team  - I’ll let you know if I hear anything back!

Neither is a preference. I find both the app and the website clunky in their own special ways but some things can only be done on the app. For example, I can respond to the review left by our last sitter more than a month ago if I use the app. No such feature exists on the website that I have been able to find.

Generally in the online world, using apps is safer than a website. Banking apps, for example, are much safer than banking transactions on a website. The THS app should be also be safer to use than their website.

Using the web over the app forfeits certain functionality and some safety. That’s fine.

On web, from the sitter’s side, I can go to my “Past Sits,” click on an individual sit and the host’s review, and reply to their review. If you can’t find such on the host’s side on web, maybe flag to THS. That seems like an odd thing to be missing.

Nope. Not there. If you’re getting there via “Past Sits”, there’s no such route for HOs.

THS programmers certainly must know of such an obvious quirk in their wonky software. It’s not a subtle omission.

So with you in the subject of the app vs Website.

I have a combined membership @OnTheRoadAgain so I just went into Past Sitters on the website on my computer. The last sitters I had were in 2020 (I no longer use my owner part) and under their review of my sit, there is the box saying ‘Respond to review’.

I have used both the app and the website interchangeably since pre-Covid, and without any significant deal-breaking challenges. I’m always pleased when I see updates that improve the experience for hosts and sitters alike.

The site is not optimized for multiple display sizes. If you are accessing it via a tablet or other small device, you may need to scroll down to see the option.

Curious. I rechecked and the “Respond to review” under my past sitters is there on the app and definitely not on the website. On both the app and the website, my listing profile just lists past sitters; there’s no “Past Sitters” link on either on them. Maybe the Premium Member flag causes something to be populated for you that doesn’t populate for my non-Premium membership. Who knows. Personally, I don’t really care. It’s just another THS firmware quirk to me.

Websites don’t care about multiple display sizes. The information that is displayed on a website is provided by THS. How that information is presented in a computer screen depends on the browser. I’ve tried 3 browsers and scrolled to the bottom of every page. There’s nothing there.

Apps care about display sizes and I agree THS does not optimize for different devices. Still, the functionality I’m missing on the website is available on the app

I’m not a Premium member @OnTheRoadAgain so that’s not the reason.
