I have just done a search on the app for Europe, for a long period of time with few filters, so a lot of sits came up. I have noticed for the first time that, after every group of 15 listings which fulfill the criteria, there’s a “sits we think you’ll like”, which don’t follow any of the criteria introduced.
This is the first time I’ve noticed this. I had seen that before but only after all the results but now they interrupt the search every 15 listings.
Seems well-intended function but don’t think that we have ever applied to any such listings. Not sure if this reflects limited functionality, our listing preferences or otherwise. We simply ignore them.
It’s very random. Ours is full of UK and USA suggestions, neither of which are on our preferred sit list so the two aren’t linked it seems. #smootherindeed
I commented on it 2 years ago ( April 2024 )when the sit it thought I would like had a one star review with a warning from the previous sitter about the hosts confrontational behaviour .
This feature also frequently recommends sits that covers dates when I already have a confirmed sit .
I remember the thread and I have been aware of this “section” for quite a while, I don’t like it but I just disregard it. What I have discovered recently is that, on the app, it doesn’t come at the end of the search results, as a separate feature, it interrupts the results every so often (every 15 results, I think), which is particularly annoying as I have to pass through that to continue my search.
Why on earth does anyone think I would like to go to a different continent, look after other types of pets at random dates instead of one of the sits I am specifically searching for?
If everyone says that has been around for a long time, then the only explanation is that I must have done wider searches on the web and then probably go to the app to fine tune a more thorough search that includes missing reviews.
I can understand that THS may be interested in getting more applications and they think a “sits we think you’ll like section” is useful but, @moderators, why not leave it as a separate section?
They’ve been there for quite a while, they never ever match my search terms, it’s a waste of good space from THS’s point of view. If they showed me places I search for it would go in their favour.
I agree it can be a bit jarring when those ‘sits we think you’ll like’ pop up in the middle of a filtered search. It’s a common observation, and while they rarely align with my specific criteria, I sometimes give them a quick glance just in case there’s an unexpected gem. It’s all part of navigating the platform’s features, I suppose!
