Emails from THS listing new sits, including those marked as my favourites, are often already unavailable as indicated in the emails as “reviewing applications” so i miss out on applying for some interesting sits. Is there a way of contacting the HO separately to introduce myself in advance as it seems its too late once the reviewing process is under way. Should i not be relying on email updates? Would be grateful for suggestions.
You would get faster notifications from Saved sits created in the app (within the hour).
But often also those will be too late.
This is the most frustrating thing about THS and why after two years I probably won’t be renewing. I have saved locations and the emails come in too late and notifications on my phone are intermittent at best. I thought it was odd earlier today I hadn’t seen a sit for ages, only to find that there were a handful ‘reviewing applications’ that we could have done, but no notification. (And yes have checked all permissions and all turned on.)
We have managed to do one sit in nine months and even that was a HO reaching out to us directly… It’s just not worth it anymore.
Are you saying that if a saved search is created on desktop notifications are slower?
They are different. Yes, they appear in the same list, but these are not the same.
Saved searches created in the web interface generate an email at your local evening.
Saved searches created in the app generate notifications in the app within an hour of publication.
(When everything works as it is supposed to.)
Thank you, I didn’t know that. That would explain why I don’t get the notifications! What an utterly ridiculous system! But I will go and recreate the alert now, thank you!

Thankyou. How are the sits notified to sitters in the app? Just finding my way with this. Are HO’s aware of sitters who have added them to their favourites so that they could approach a sitter directly if they chose? I get invitations directly sometimes from HO’s not in my favourites but is it possible to contact HO’s?
It’s a problem we all experience sadly, now THS has introduced the ‘5 application rule’ whereby listings are paused once they received 5 applications and the HO has to reject some to unpause.
The App notifies you faster than a laptop but I still find most sits in my chosen area are reviewing by the time I go to apply. You can’t contact HO directly unless you’ve already been in touch with them (often if they contact you or you’ve sat for them previously).
Sitting on your phone constantly refreshing the THS is the only option it seems.
You should get push notifications for Saved searches created in the app. Just test if it works by saving a search for UK and/or USA. Then probably you want to switch this off soon. If it does not work start to check if push notifications are enabled on your phone for the THS app.
Contacting directly has a very low success rate on THS.
