Two Houses two countries

I mostly need sitters in Greece in a place sitters really want to visit. I am now thinking of listing my home in Albuquerque NM during Balloon Fiesta in October This would probably be a one-time-only thing so my son can come to Greece to visit Would I have to pay two memberships and would the reviews transfer over.

I have been down this road as I have a Mexico home (been on THS for about 15 months) and I have a condo in Chicago. I sent emails to member services and they said could could offer me a discount for the 2nd membership… no thanks. Otherwise you would have to either pay a new membership fee with another email addy OR edit your entire Greece listing and replace with your New Mexico home details. So the reviews would stay but be for the Greece home. Its really dumb, as the amount of work to clear out info on one home to add the other JUST to get a sitter for a one time thing is tremendous. THEN you have to change it back to your Greece home. Also, you cant have sits at the two places at once with one account (though sounds like you wouldnt need to). What I ended up doing is planning for the future for my Chicago condo by checking with a past sitter who I know loves Chicago as well as connecting with a sitter on this forum who likes big cities. We were able to private message and look at each others profiles, reviews, etc. so we can decide if this is something we would both be comfy doing “off platform” so I dont have to change all my info for one sit NOR buy another membership on THS. I also have other options for sitters in Chicago as needed. Hopefully you can come up with a plan that works for you.

I’m sure THS will tell you two houses, two memberships, but a lot of people have two houses and use one account.

The question I have is “Whose pets?” Are the pets in NM yours or your son’s. It could get a little tricky if he’s basically a tenant with his own pets, in which case, maybe he should get the account.

It would also be a fair amount of work and somewhat confusing to sitters: Homeowners need to change out the location and home address on the account so it shows up correctly on a search. Homeowners have to change out the photos and desriptions. If there are different pets you’d have to change them out as well. That way the reviews will appear with your same reviews. It will be confusing because suddenly your past sitter’s review’s will say NM and not Greece.

Marion 3’of the pets are mine and he has agreed To take them on while I get to experience Greece for two or three years.

It is my house and he works and helps pay expenses

Might be simpler to put out a call on Facebook or something and see what you get. Many sits in US seem to be having difficulties so if you had to swap over properties twice it might be a lot of hassle for nothing. With any luck a nice forum member might be interested

That’s a great idea if sitters can get to experience the Balloon fiesta with your dogs .

We went to the balloon festival in Switzerland this year it was amazing experience. Is it something that can be seen from your house ?

As others have said you can only have one profile on your account at a time - it will be a considerable amount of work to change all the photos and descriptions of the houses.

Your listing will have reviews that will relate to sits in Greece with your cats which will be confusing- You would need to delete the profile of your cat and add profiles and photos for your dogs .

If your son is doing the handover it may be best if he is involved in the video calls too - who will write the reviews you or your son ?

You will also need to completely rewrite the WG . But there is an easy workaround for this - don’t use the THS one - create a your own document .

If you have dates coming up for both properties this year, this will be problematic as your sitters for Greece will need to refer to the listing that relates to Greece and vice versa .

It was stated previously on this forum that Member services give hosts get a discount if they get a second account for a second home . Maybe contact them for a definite answer and please report back to the forum if they do offer you a discount for this and how much of a discount ?

You could set another a/c with your son as host and use your referral code so he gets a discount .

I hope you find a workable solution - as a sit during the balloon festival will be very popular with sitters .

It’s Something we would consider travelling to US for !

A combination of @MTBer and @Cathie suggestions could work .

Use other platforms to advertise but ask for sitters that are THS members so that you can check their reviews and they can also check yours .

I do not know how big the one in Switzerland is but this is an international event with hundreds of balloons. The balloons fly right over my house and down the aroya across the street. My son is supposed to go and apply for his girlfriend’s passport this week. I told him once he gets that done I will work to find a sitter. Yes he would do the handover and it is for 2 dogs and 3 cats. The dogs do not need walks just exercise in the backyard.

I did not think of asking for sitters on Facebook that have Trusted Housesitters reviews, One of the reasons to have my son travel during Balloon Fiesta is because yes, there are lots of sits in NM not filled.

@mam1996t, kalimera :wink:

We’ve completed several housesits in Greece - mostly Crete. We have open Saved Search for Greece so we’ll see your future listing . As you note then they, perhaps like many Schengen listings, are popular so - subject to reasonable trade - often receive many applicants.

The topic of multiple memberships has periodically been discussed on THS Forum. I seem to recall @Colin outlining tactics for two memberships. This involves two costs (though you can refer yourself), but is probably easier to action and easier to terminate if need is short-term. Compared to cost of transatlantic flights then perhaps one-year post-referral cost of second membership may be immaterial - your call. This seemed to involve:

  • primary membership - fully-complete profile + reviews
  • secondary membership - consciously brief content + weblink to primary membership

Alternatively, we occasionally see listings with multiple properties. Such listings cover both properties and clearly state which property is relevant to a specific listing date. This works on single cost subscription but probably involves more work, so maybe optimal if you expect dual listings to be an ongoing situation.

  • photographs that are clearly identified as property A or property B
  • listing text content, where possible on THS platform, is clearly identified as property A or property B

A quirk that you may face is that Greece listing is “a place sitters really want to visit”. Living in such a location seems a great ‘problem’. Peer pet parents talk to us of frustrations of high-volume, poor-fit applicants. So probably in your best interest to have property specifics stated very clearly in listing. Good luck.

In case your son does travel, it sounds like it wouldn’t be the worst thing for him to have his own account. This isn’t a simple “second home” situation where it’s a different location but the same pets and similar expectations for the homeowner. It’s a different person living in the home and different pets.

If this is a rare event, and it looks like a lot of NM sits go unfilled, then I agree with others – you could look for someone (or your son could) paid or unpaid offsite.

I saw some housesits who mention that they have two houses. And then they specifically say that the listing this time is for … House in …

And I also have done sits where the owner moved.

He mentioned then that the reviews were from another location. (F.e. Netherlands/ UK, Austria/Denmark and two different houses in Switzerland)

So maybe you can just alter the Photos, the description etc.?

And specific mention the location. A few times (header, information etc.)

And with the videocall also mention it and do a live tour through the house?

I’m not sure if this could work but perhaps you can do two listings in one. I saw that once. You can add photos of both places, clearly marking the pictures for one home and the other and also write double sections of everything. You would only have to change location and tick a few boxes every time you change but you would not have to write everything every time you change and sitters would also be aware that reviews are for different sits.

As for the location in the sitters review, it’s supposed to be fixed now although someone reported it wasn’t working for them.

In the OP situation the pets are different for each location .

1 cat only in Greece

2 x dogs and 3 x cats In Albuquerque NM

Thanks everyone for your help. I have realized it’s just too much effort for one time sit. I will look into other options.

Reviews stay with you as the owner, so switching homes is usually no biggie as long as your profile stays the same. I’ve listed during big events before, and it really bumps up interest, but I try to post early so sitters can plan flights without scrambling. If you’re unsure about membership stuff, support is pretty quick to clear things up.
