I applied for a last minute sit on 26.05 to start on 30.05.
The HO has received 3 applicants and I was the first. Is it usual for the HO to wait for the excepted 5 applications or maybe even not to reply to the unsuccessful ones? As it is very last minute now I feel put on hold unnecessarily and feel blocked from applying for other sits. Thank you for any thoughts, catparr
I’ve seen others sitters say if they don’t hear straight back they withdraw their application. Is it worth just sending a polite follow up message asking for clarification on the basis that it’s very close now to the sit date. That’s probably the approach I would take.
Yes, unexpected that they don’t respond fast to a last-minute sit.
Don’t feel blocked, keep applying, it is their problem. #yousnoozeyoulose.
No need to withdraw your application until you are confirmed for another sit.
Anecdotally, it feels like when we’ve been the first-choice candidate we get responses very quickly (under a day, often within a few hours). Not hearing back for longer than that more often seems to result in an eventual rejection, so I presume the HO is talking to other people in that time.
Some will set up an interview with their top choice, and then afterwards if that goes well, reject the rest. Some will interview multiple sitters—but in that case, you still get a quick response and at least know you’re in the running.
If I were you, I would keep applying for other sits in the meantime and don’t hang your hopes too much on this one…
Thank you for your reply. Being new to house sitting I felt a bit unsure, Greetings
Thank you for giving me a bit more confidence as I’m still new to HS
Thank you for the advice. As this is my second sit I’m still feeling my way but your reply has put me on the right track. Greetings
