We're new here! San Diego -- La Jolla area?

My wife and I are of retirement age and are very active in our local community and in worldwide travel.
For 2025 and 2026 our first interests are in house-sitting in the San Diego - La Jolla area of the U.S.
(We are thinking about the possibility of dog-sitting. Allergic to cats.)
We hope you may have tips for us as we begin to be available and to look for opportunities. Thank you.

Hi @DonaldSarah. Welcome to the forum. My mom lives in La Jolla, so I’ve done a lot of pet sitting in LJ and SD. It’s a great area for sits, San Diego more so than just La Jolla.

Since you’re new to the forum, I suggest you consider including a link to your TrustedHousesitters sitter profile in your forum profile (either in the About me or the website field), so our community members can take a look and possibly provide feedback that will make you shine even more in the eyes of any pet parents who consider you for a sit.

To do that

  • Click on the icon in the top right that shows your picture
  • Go straight down and click on the little person icon
  • Click on Preferences
  • Click on Profile

Be sure to click on Save changes after you add your sitter link, then come back here and invite everyone to take a look and provide feedback.

This is a lovely group of people who are more than happy to help new folks get up-and-running quickly :grinning:

Welcome.
When we started out last year as excited newbies I read multiple threads on this Forum, and took notes…. and kept updating my profile too. I think I’d read 2,000 comments before I ever applied for a sit. We were confirmed for 5 out of the 7 that we applied for. We completed our 1st sit, then due to a medical emergency had to cancel 4 in a row (I gave 2-3 mths notice). Since then we’ve completed 3 successful sits and have 2 more lined up. I write this to illustrate what could be considered to be an untypical story of a sitter, however every sitter has an untypical story to tell and so will you. I’ve learnt that sitters have a unique story as do pet owners. THS provides a matching platform, beyond which all due diligence is down to you. Many get it right and it’s plain sailing and works brilliantly, a very few are careless in matching up or in other cases are just plain unlucky in their pairing. Take great care in identifying who you sit for. Start with short sits and build from there. Read everything on these boards and take note. Best wishes and enjoy.
