What are you watching?

We have been winding up Firefly Lane and now watching HiJack. Both are good.

My husband has asked me to accompany him in watching ā€˜The Witcher’ series. I do cover my eyes occasionally and just found out there are three seasons :scream:

I have watched the 3 seasons - there are quite a lot of fight scenes and I got used to looking away when the action starts as it is not my preference to watch all that action stuff. That said, the story is quite interesting and the fantasy world is well-constructed.

We have just started watching ā€˜Elite’ on Netflix. It is a Spanish drama with English subtitles. There are six series with a seventh due out - we are only on series one, episode three but are hooked already!

I was recommended to watch The Bear (about a chef) - (2 seasons) and have really enjoyed the 1st season and believe the 2nd season is even better! So guess it will be a binge watching weekend!

Thanks for your other recommendations.

I started to watch The Essex Serpent on appletv. Good cast, interesting story set in the late 19th century in London and Essex.

I started to watch Black Bird on appletv. I don’t usually watch ā€˜based on true crime’ movies/series but this one looks good. I like the way it is directed.

@cat.tails Thank you for the heads up! I agree as I actually love the old world mixed with fantasy sets and costumes, but yes I turn away at some action parts!

I did the same with Game of Thrones - for my taste there were too many violent fights and battle scenes as well as other unnecessary ?!? [three letter word not allowed] scenes

We finished watching Inside Man, (the series on Netflix starring Stanley Tucci, not to confuse it with Inside Man the film which is also very good!), it’s definitely worth a watch, we really enjoyed it, it’s 4 episodes in total. :tv::slightly_smiling_face:

@Samox24 we have been watching that too. Also Hijack and finished Firefly Lane, which was very humorous, poignant and sad. A great story of friendships, friendships lost, love, love lost, life, life lost and all in between during 30+ years of friendship between two teenage girls.

@Debbie-L We haven’t seen either of the other two programmes you mentioned so we will certainly check them out now, thank you

I agree, Inside Man is very good

I watched the first episode of Becoming Elizabeth which is set in 1547/1548 after the death of King Henry VIII. I then decided to watch the older series The Tudors which I have never watched before. Most of the first season is set in the time that Henry VIII is still married to Catherine of Aragon, ie before he married Anne Boleyn in 1533.

Interestingly, at the moment I am catsitting in a thatched house/cottage that was built in 1490. It is the oldest house in this village and while I was watching the above TV shows, it occurred to me that this house was already built before the action I was watching in those historical dramas!

Hi @cat.tails both look really good and wow! That’s older than our house which dates back to 1740. I often wonder about all the people who have lived here before us.

@cat.tails I loved the Tudors, but will now watch Becoming Elizabeth as did not know about that one. Thank you for the recommendations!

@cat.tails I loved both of these series. If you are into English royal dynasty shows you might also like these below. They should be watched in this order.

  1. The White Queen - set in 1464 during the War of the Roses and the crowning of Edward IV and subsequently Richard III
The White Queen (TV Mini Series 2013) - IMDb

  2. The White Princess - sequel to the above, the story of Elizabeth of York and her marriage to Henry VII and the start of the Tudor dynasty
The White Princess (TV Mini Series 2017) - IMDb

  3. The Spainish Princess - about the young Catherine of Aragon when she first came to England
The Spanish Princess (TV Series 2019–2020) - IMDb

I’m a Tudor tragic and loved them all. They are based on books by Philippa Gregory who brings English history alive so well.

thanks @Crookie
I haven’t read any books by books by Philippa Gregory but I will watch out for these TV shows. I’d like to see the new movie which I think is called Firebrand about Katherine Parr which stars Jude Law as Henry VIII and Alicia Vikander as Parr.
