Recently watched the series ā€˜A Small Light’ on Disney+ about the people who hid Anne Frank and her family. Such an amazing and heart breaking story.

For those of you who, like me, are hooked on Only Murders in the Building, the next season starts Aug 8 on Hulu. It stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez and features a rotating cast of big names in supporting roles. Meryl Streep will join the cast this time.

From Rotten Tomatoes: Three strangers share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one. When a grisly death occurs inside their exclusive Upper West Side apartment building, the trio suspects murder and employs their precise knowledge of true crime to investigate the truth. Perhaps even more explosive are the lies they tell one another. Soon, the endangered trio comes to realize a killer might be living among them as they race to decipher the mounting clues before it’s too late.

Way too late to the party now but I just wanted to say that your choices are so…you!

Thank you @Karen_E I haven’t seen this before and it looks really good so I will have a look :+1:t2::slightly_smiling_face:

If you haven’t already watched this, please, please put everything else on hold and give yourselves a treat

As always I am late to the party, it was first shown on the BBC in 2014 but I only stumbled across it on Netflix a couple of days ago.

It is a true gem of gentle, but hilarious British humour following the lives of Andy and Lance, two detectorists ( people who go out searching with a metal detector - who knew?!)

There is no annoying canned laughter, you need no artificial prompts pointing out what is supposed to be funny. Instead, you will find yourself smiling throughout each perfectly crafted 30-minute episode, and laughing out loud regularly as impeccably timed, very clever one-liners are thrown into the perfectly scripted conversations.

Probably The best 30-minute episodes of television I have ever seen! - I challenge you to watch episode one and not be addicted - 10/10!

thanks for the recommendation @Colin - I will watch it on bbc iplayer. Those are great actors - I saw the taller one in a play called Jerusalem last year co-starring Mark Rylance, and I loved the shorter actor in the Truman Capote biopic many years ago as well as other films. Sorry, forget their names!

PS just started watchig it - had to laugh at the reference to vanilla perfume (which I also love to use :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:), and happy to see Aimee-Ffion Edwards in it - she was so good in Peaky Blinders and other movies

@cat.tails - When Andy & Lance first meet two new characters who, because of their resemblance, they refer to as ā€˜Simon & Garfunkel’, one of the new guys asks Andy and Lance how they are. To which Lance responds ā€œI’m feeling groovyā€ - just clever, gentle one-liners that never stop coming. True British comedy gold! - I am astonished that the series never made prime time.

yes, that was funny. It is well-written, I am enjoying it

The Diplomat and The Bodyguard both on Netflix, both limited series. I can binge a whole series on a day when I’m donating platelets - 2 or 3 episodes while donating and finish up at home that night. (I’m a 1-arm donor so about 2 hours in the chair.) A bit of suspension of disbelief is required.

@Colin @cat.tails We have watched the first few episodes, it’s brilliant and I’m not sure how we missed it either!
Also there is a Detectorists Special 2022 movie available on Amazon Prime, we haven’t watched it yet but will after we have finished the series

I have started to watch an old TV series (1999-2021) called Inspector Montalbano in Italian with English subtitles. I am enjoying it a lot. The only thing I don’t like so much is that one of the non-Italian-speaking actors is dubbed in Italian. Dubbed parts always seem weird to me as the mouth movements are inevitably out of sync :frowning:

LIke Lewis or Morse, each episode is about 1.5 hrs and is a self-contained detective story but it is good to watch it in order from the start for character development etc.

I am really glad to have discovered this after a friend recommended the books to me. In the UK it can be watched on bbc iplayer.

@cat.tails I really enjoyed watching Inspector Montalbano too :+1:t2::slightly_smiling_face:
