This has been brought up many times but here we go again. Homeowners should not be able to invite sitters who are currently on a sit or already have confirmed sit for the HO’s listing dates.
We are currently on a sit until Aug 15 and we still got invited for a sit on 04 Aug - 07 Aug.
I’ve received a number of invites recently too that are for dates that I already have confirmed THS sits. That calendar doesn’t really seem to be useful in it’s current format.
YES! I mostly sit in the US, where a listing has the city and state. But if it’s the UK, it just says, “city/town, UK.” It doesn’t even say if it’s England, Scotland, Wales, or N. Ireland! Also, many towns in the US are not available to use for some reason, so homeowners will put in a different town nearby. I often sit in the same region and know a lot of the towns, so it’s misleading to have a listing that’s allegedly in one town but really isn’t there at all. I even saw one where the listing said they were in Philadelphia, when really, they are in a town in NJ on the other side of the river from Philly–it’s not even the same state!
Great idea!
Hi
So I notice that owner/pet parents are really sluggish sending a reply if they already found someone else. With the majority I had to send numerous reminders.
In my opinion there should be an option that its mandatory to reply, I mean they only have to send 4 petsitters a decline-reply, how hard can that be?
My point is, is that as petsitter you also need to take care of stuff like manage your trip etc. And most of the ads are on a pretty short notice. So, it’s vital to inform house petsitter on time. Plus this is the least you can expect for a platform where you have to pay for…
I think this is a serious feature you have to implement.
E.g. that acceptance of a petsitter is possible after you have sent all potential petsitters a reply.

@HugoK - Once a HO has confirmed a sitter, all other applicants are sent an automatic reply. Some HOs may send a personal note thanking each application, others not.
Exactly. In the “old days” a good sit had 20+ applicants & sitters waited for ever for the HOs decision; now there can only be 5 applicants and sitters are still waiting….plus ça change!
Wouldn’t it be nice to have any kind of control over one’s favourites list?
I have hundreds and the only purpose that this unwieldy, disordered stream has is to get a notification sent to me when one of them posts a listing.
Many of the favourites are no longer active members but can I just delete them? Nope.
Do they appear in chronological order of the date I selected the ? Nope. By name? Nope. By area, by most recent listing, by any logical definition at all? Nope.
@Silverfox; do I not understand (happens a lot) or have you got/had a house sit listed that has received >60 applicants? How? Where?
Very true. Really needs a filter with all of those options.
Yes but then they couldn’t charge more for the next grade of membership that allows more (or even unlimited) searches.
We applied for a sit early April and it has been sitting as Reviewing ever since. The sit is over Christmas and New Years.
I’ve not canceled my application as it’s now a bit of a sport to see if the HO ever replies.
Agreed, there are other things I think of (I really must jot them down, lol) however I never remember when they come up on here or from THS emails. (lol)
Search functions on regions etc and being able to cancel/withdraw function from sit, I have had feedback from HO asking how do I cancel this? IDK I have never seen that side of the THS website. Last year we were booked back to back from May until Sep travelling from Cambridgeshire, Wiltshire, Bath, Bristol, Wales and back, I ended in and out of Hospital with Gallstones, sepsis, surgery, bleed out in surgery, post op infection, another complication, it went on and on and I had to from my Bed in pre surgical Ward send to everyone explaining, the Hospital cant’ tell me how long I am going to be here etc etc so please cancel and re advertise and I am so sorry, thankfully they were all able to get sitters in a suitable time as I was in and out of Hospital for 7 weeks, it would have been so much easier if I could have gone through “my sits” and hit a cancel/withdrawn and sent a blanket message to all my lined up sits. x
Well, here’s one person cheering for you on the sidelines you must let us know if you ever hear back!!
Many house sitters do this as it broadens travel opportunities. A map showing the history of locations would be a cool feature.
A “report” button to automatically report listings that break the rules, instead of having to copy the URL and write an email or message.
My biggest pet peeve here. Stop listing your sit as being in New York City when you’re actually in New Jersey. Stop saying you’re in London when you’re in Surrey. Just stop.
We use Google maps for that. After confirming a sit we enter the address in our Petsitting Google maps custom list.
To create a list, just open a place or address on Google Maps. Then, tap on the place name and the save icon, which brings up several pre-set lists like “Want to Go” or “Favorites.” You can also create and name a new list. To view your saved lists, you can go to “Your Places” in the side menu. Your lists can be viewed on both the desktop and mobile apps, and you’ll even be able to view them offline if you download the relevant area in advance. If you zoom out you will be able to see all places on the map.
Yup. I already use google maps. But I was thinking something more exciting like relive (bike riding app)
I would like to see a return of the map feature which existed at the beginning of my membership a few years ago.
A world map where every sit you do/have done is marked with, say, a red dot. I really liked that. Its inspiring both to us and to any host viewing our sitting track record to see where we’ve been! So far we’ve sat in 10 different countries but some of the more exotic ones happened 50+ sits ago so unless someone reads ALL our reviews they wouldn’t get that far back to know how international we are!
