Just a fun topic to provide some food for thought;
The term comfort food is food that evokes feelings of warmth, nostalgia and emotional comfort. These foods are often associated with positive memories, especially from childhood or home-cooked meals, it’s sometimes even referred to as a hug in a bowl.
Comfort food is a personal experience, and what one person considers comforting may not be the same for another. Some foods are widely recognised as comfort foods the world over, such as chicken soup or fried chicken.
Do you have a favourite “go to” comfort food and if so, what is it?
A bonus for people who sit by me is that we live 20 minutes away from a chocolate shop where you can sample the flavors before you buy them. It’s so much fun to do to go chocolate shopping :).
Wensleydale cheese on Ryvita crackers. With chutney. Doesn’t matter what sort.
When I was a small kid and felt a bit off-colour, I knew I was only really unwell if I didn’t feel like a “Cheese and Chutney Biscuit”. And if I also didn’t fancy a packet of salt’n’vinegar crisps, I might as well comb my hair to face the Pearly Gates.
Thanks to everyone who has shared their favourite “go to” comfort foods with me. They are certainly all making me hungry now, especially the mention of cheese & chocolate!
in batter from a chip shop. It has to be haddock rather than the ubiquitous cod to remind me of my childhood when I could go in and just say “six times and a bag of chips please” and they knew just what I meant.
My favourite comfort food is anything my Mum makes, but specifically her lasagne, and her lemon meringue pie. Mum cooks lots of different dishes, but these have been staples since childhood.
Honorary mention for sweet and sour chicken hong kong style, egg fried rice, chicken and noodle soup, and a fortune cookie from my local Chinese.
For me I think any meal with mashed potato and gravy / sauce - sausage & mash, homemade shepherds or cottage pie.
My younger son was floored by a nasty virus last week, and very much off his food. The meal he ate most consistently was IKEA meatballs and their special sauce. I need another visit to IKEA to stock up now!
Hi @Debbie I hope your youngest son is feeling much better now and I’m a huge fan of IKEA meatballs & their special sauce too!
I had never been to an IKEA until we went in one whilst on a road trip in Belgium, specifically to try their meatballs and now I’m hooked on them!
