My teenaged son and I have just confirmed a 10 day sit in Bonn, the former capital of West Germany, looking after a lovely-looking cat. Neither of us are into Christmas, but the architecture, food and culture will be fascinating, not to mention the cold war-era history, including a bunker that is now a museum (for some reason, teen son is fascinated by bunkers and history!)
I don’t sit during the holidays. Will be traveling with my husband, but still trying to decide where. The folks who normally take care of our dog on their 20+ acres said they could do a few weeks flexibly, after returning from their travels ahead of U.S. Thanksgiving, so I have time to choose.
We leave our dog with them, because he has special needs and the woman used to work at the shelter where he sat unwanted for many months, after being returned as a rescue. She and her husband have a bunch of dogs who are used to running around on their rural property, so they’d never stay at our place. We figure it gives our dog a chance to socialize, while watched by folks whom we trust implicitly. That gives us peace of mind and them a bunch of cash for the holidays.
When we travel, we usually offer our house and cars to friends and family who want to visit our area.
I will be in Southern California. Do not have a sit booked for Christmas yet but there will be plenty of options.
I’m looking to get my schedule filled for earlier in the month first. The most ideal scenario is finding one sit for my whole open time from early December to early January.
I already have two sits booked in the desert for the winter so more inclined towards a beach sit for the holiday period but open to anything.
I’m also in London! Not so central (Southgate) but Christmas in London has had a strange novelty to it, since I moved away after living there for 25 years..
@DieFledermaus Us too. We normally head south to Asia Pac by November at latest. But its a fantastic apartment in Southwark with a fat, lazy affectionate cat and heating. So we are toughing out the weather for our first cold Christmas ever.
I will be sitting in Riga, Latvia. I wanted to go someplace I haven’t been this year and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m going to fly into Helsinki earlier in December, then go to Tallin, and then Riga for the holidays!
Whoo some lucky people with great sounding sits. We are feeling lucky too, we will be near Lausanne in Switzerland and then on to family in nearby Brienze. Venice for new year in a hotel.
We’ve just confirmed our Christmas sit in 11 acres of Wiltshire countryside, but just a short drive from Bath and Bradford on Avon. Older son will be bringing his telescope as the dark skies are great for stargazing. Looking after one lovely Labrador. The hosts are new to THS but I could tell from the listing, and from our video chat that they are naturally hospitable and understand the mutual exchange.
Oooh! This is my neighbourhood. I love the south-of-Bath/Bradford on Avon area. Hills, canals and tunnels! If you’d like any recommendations, let me know!
Wow - some interesting Christmas sits lined up on here! I don’t usually seek out Christmas sits but who knows if something appealing may turn up! My hubby and l have booked a cruise prior to Christmas in and out of New Orleans to the Caribbean. It’s exciting for us as my husband hasn’t been able to travel for six months due to health issues so I recently did two sits in Europe on my own. He’s so excited to travel again
We’re sitting in Yogyakarta on Java for a cool cat. Been on my wish list since I was 18 and backpacking round Indonesia the first time 36 years ago, so what a fab Christmas treat with all those temples! #jogjajoy
