Where will you be sitting on 4th July?

It’s getting near that date again. BBQs, sport events and sunshine and lots and lots of loud bangs!
We will be celebrating Independance Day in Fairbanks, Alaska. Another exciting holiday for a couple of Scots travellers. The problem is we are experiencing 24 hour daylight so when do the fireworks go off? I did ask and our doggie parents told us fireworks are kept for Christmas and New Year. Yes, there are sorts of parades- traditional and “hippy” but no fireworks. It definitely will be different this year.
Where will you be celebrating the holiday?

Lucky you! We are in Arizona during a heat wave. 116 degrees Fahrenheit. I don’t even bother to convert to Celsius at that point. Triple digits is too hot . The dogs are lovely and we have a pool, so all good.

I’m in Sitka Alaska, Although not on a sit, yet my summer seasonal job as a Nature guide leading walking tours. Sitka did their fireworks last night at 11:30 p.m Since we’re in Southeast Alaska closer to British Columbia , the hours of daylight are 19, with a few somewhat dark from midnight until around 3 a.m. They’re will be a parade on the 4th along with a variety of activities.

Southeast Alaska lies within the Tongass National forest, the largest national forest in the country. It is a northern temperate rainforest so a very different ecosystem from the taiga and tundra of the interior.

Daytona Beach, FL. Feels like summer!

Oh, nice! I did a Leavenworth sit not long ago. Enjoyed the town. Sweet cat.

I’d like to learn to sit rabbits.

I just got to San Diego today for a repeat sit. Two super sweet, little, older dogs.

Between them, they have few teeth, back problems, and one is blind and deaf. But their humans put them on a healthy home-cooked diet, so they have more energy and playfulness than their age would normally allow.

Tomorrow, an annual July 4 race is being run through the neighborhood so streets will be shut down to cars.

Already hearing people shooting off fireworks. The two dogs don’t seem to be reacting at all, happily.

North Island of New Zealand, on a beautiful mountaintop overlooking the Bay of Plenty. No fireworks here, but, in a few weeks, Women’s World Cup!

Happy Independence Day to all our :us: members!

Oh @Jts125 that sounds amazing! I love LI and the NYC area. Will you be able to go into the city while you’re there? Do post pictures of your new furry friends and turn us all green with envy for the great time you’re having!

@Maggie8K I had applied for a Leavenworth sit a while back but got declined. Maybe you’re the one who got the sit

In San Diego in October. Looks a great place. That’s our last sit on our 8 month journey across North America.

I’m so envious. I almost never see listings that are family friendly. Petsitting or no petsitting we going there this Nov. We’ll get hotels or Airbnb if we can’t find a sit

@ElsieDownie when in October will you be in San Diego? I’ll be there Oct 16-30 and would love to meet up.

Oh dear…I had to sit a big dog on the beach at Tauranga for 5 weeks and walked up Mount Maunganui several times, way better than fireworks.
