Replying to myself here, but I have been giving this some more thought and I have an additional thought. You can add no more than 10 pets in âIntroduce the pets you have cared forâ. Is it clear to the homeownerâs sitters can only add 10? If I add 10 different pets, I am worried it is going to look like we have cared for these 10 pets exclusively, although we have cared for more pets (more than 10 different types/breeds). I do not want to miss out on an opportunity because of a possible misunderstanding, where we might have cared for a particular type of pet/breed but an owner thinks we have not because we could not add more pets to our profile. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Hi @saasmaka
No I donât use the introducing pet feature - I didnât really know it was there. What is the point of it? I have photos of some of the pets on my profile which also states how many dogs I have looked after over 13 years.
Where is the list of breeds to choose from?
I have looked after over 60 breeds so where would I start?
I am looking after new breeds all of the time so it is all meaningless.
Another âpointlessâ improvement
Thanks for asking
Think bigger picture instead of âonly 10 animalsâ.
I used this to feature the variety: big dogs, (plus a pair of brutish-looking pitbulls) little dogs, old dogs, puppies⌠As well as kittens, extra furry cats, one eyed cats⌠Just to show the breadth and depth of the variety of pets Iâve cared for.
I think the goal is so that anybody looking for a sitter is not going to question whether I could handle their German Shepherd, Chihuahua, or that big old (old!) sweet English
Bulldog that needed medical attentionâŚor any type of cat.
I think itâs just reassurance that they see I have experience with an animal similar. If I donât show their particular dog, these examples should indicate that Iâd also be happy to care for a Cane Corso or a teacup Maltese.
I guess the point is to have more opportunities to show your experience. I assume it must have been requested a lot as it has been prioritised as an improvement, but I donât know.
If you go to edit your experience section and click âAdd petâ and then choose âDogâ or
âCatâ or âhorseâ a field for filling in the breed will appear, but when you start typing youâll get a list of choices and you must choose something from the list, you canât add the pet otherwise and you canât just type whatever breed you like.
I definitely understand that it would be hard for you to use this feature to show the full range of your experience. Thank you for your answer.
Could a staff member of THS confirm if this has been a requested feature, please? Perhaps point me in the direction of a forum thread where this has been discussed if there is one? If I read more peopleâs ideas and thoughts I might get a better idea on how to use it.
I definitely can understand your point of view. This was how I was thinking I could use it initially⌠But then I couldnât find the breeds I wanted to use and I got worried that a HO would think we havenât cared for more pets than these 10. But Iâm thinking that I perhaps could add that these are some examples of pets we cared for, in the âOur experienceâ field above it, because Iâm not sure that would be clear. Maybe that could work out nicely, Iâll have to think about it.
Yes @CatsAndDog you can choose âRescue dogâ in the breed section
Can home owners search for sitters with these specifik tags? Like different breeds, specific type of small pet etc. I couldnât find that option when i tried searching for a sitter, but perhaps you must be registered HO/premium user.
Hi @MissChef: I used this point in another thread & the HO that replied said it was pointless me doing that (i.e. using the 10 photos as additional promotion within my profile) because the resulting images are so pixelated that one canât distinguish pet from sitter!
The conversation started here
I checked in the conversation you linked to and I will stop thinking about how to use this feature now because i definitely wont use it⌠yeez thank you!
Good call. If I think of this entirely with my HO hat on, it means nothing to me. Lots fo photos of the sitter with animals â including different kinds of animals, is helpful. A profile that tells me about the sitters experience with some specificity is gold. But I also enjoyed reading the about section first and still skip to that before reading experience.
I wouldnât have known if I hadnât read your post, just by chance. I shall check my profile again! All of this is annoying especially being unaware. Iâve just âlostâ yet another sit due to the limited number of applications. Itâs so disheartening!
