Hi all,
I was updating my profile today and was wondering if other sitters include pets from their housesits under the ‘Introduce owners to pets you cared for’ section of your profile. I just have the dog I owned, but no others.
Hmmn - I don’t have a section with that name as an option in my profile.
Good catch. I updated the title of the section, ‘Introduce Owners to the pets you cared for’. It falls right after the checklist of ‘Pets you cared for’
No, I don’t include pets from THS. I would think one should ask permission from the owners in that case.
Not sure if it really makes a difference with very many pet-photos in that section?
No I don’t but have a few pictures of animals I’ve looked after
No I don’t include them. I have Instagram accounts for my pet-sitting and for my fosters, so I link those.
No, and we’ve sat 50+ pets so we’re not short of cute images. No, for 4 main reasons.
-
We have already used our most ‘fantastic’ photos on the main pics part, which gives a great well-rounded first impression, so by putting a bunch of less-than-wall-hangable additional photo’s would detract from our carefully selected main ones. Although it would be nice of THS to let us have a few more photo’s in the main part, like HO’s do.
-
I would rather an HO read our profile as ours is very strong at relaying who we are and why we are doing this, which ultimately leaves OUR perfect-match of owners feeling like they know-know us already.
-
Our profile would look too cluttered. There’s already a lot of sections, so it detracts our 5* reviews, our ‘fantastic’ photos, our detailed description of ourselves etc.
-
Pet owners are most likely to notice the photo’s of their particular pet type, so scrolling through a bunch of random pet types may not help our profile. Whereas our main photos, cover all basis in a well thought out way. We sit both cats and dogs (among others), but there is a far greater demand for dog sits on THS in the areas we sit in, so if someone has a cat they would need to scroll through more.
It will suit some profiles, but not ours. It just detracts from our other parts which help to ‘sell’ us in a better way… for want of a better word.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it. If you’ve only had the 1 dog, just miss that section out entirely as that section won’t show up to the HO, and HO’s won’t notice it’s NOT there, but perhaps they would notice if it was there and sparse.
Just my thoughts, but you should create your profile in the best possible way that ‘sells’ you as a person, because you, like us, don’t fit into the one-size-fits-all THS profile template.
I’ve only had one THS sit so far (total newbie) but I’ve got the full allotted 10 photos added in that section, 4 dogs I’ve looked after and 5 I’ve owned, plus my current boy.
I figured a good mix may help my prospects but in the future I don’t think I would add the ones from any THS sits unless I had express owner permission.
Thanks, everyone! My first instinct was not to and you’ve confirmed it and given some great ideas as well. Thanks for your input!
