Easier to compare, Clearer to choose

Sooo much clearer than before the changes…

@Mark_B So why does TrustedHousesitters allow anyone with an email address to open an account, view all listings and sitter profiles, and yet not be a member? Effectively they allow access to all the information on the website to anyone and everyone.

There’s one security issue that could easily be avoided. It seems like marketing has more importance over any so-called security reasoning.

And why was the choice made to include the month that a sit ended and not when it started? I have a sit that ended on April 1. You would think it was a spring time sit. But it was a three month winter sit starting in January. If you read the review, you will see that we dealt with an ice storm - not something that happens in the spring in the US south.

This update has just made things more confusing, not clearer.

It may be good idea to check listings before publication to ensure hosts don’t include their full names. I see many listings with full names, village and house names. That along with the dates they will be away is surely a security issue (if that really is a genuine concern for THS).

More worrying is as @Snowbird said. Anyone can set up an account and view all current listings anyway.

If anyone has nefarious intentions that would be an easier route than studying trends.

We need to see the length of sits and accurate information regarding the pets we cared for. That is basic information.

Agree photos often show the house number as well as car registration plates .

I’ve been feeling pretty irritated by the new extremely unhelpful and innacurate “imorovements” but only just came across this active thread so I’m going to add my frustration here..

Why oh why does management keep on tinkering and changing everything all the time??!! It is so very unhelpful, annoying and unprofessional- all the examples quoted by others - of grammar mistakes, errors and missing information etc- testify to that fact. The most annoying thing for me personally- that leapt out immediately- is the removal of sit dates. In my opinion this is a MAJOR mistake and is a great disservice to all members. The reasons given by @Mark_B for this decision - protection of (a few) HOs who travel annually on the same dates- in no way justifies the removal of ALL dates for ALL sits!!! I just checked a 3 month sit we’d been scheduled to do- from April-June. I wanted to see the reviews they’d exchanged. The sitters gave a long and detailed review of their 3 months but the host gave only a very short review highlighting the excessive watering needed in June. The sit dates said only ‘June’ instead of 1st April-30th June. So anyone reading that review will think the sitter sat only in June since that’s all the HO refers to.. This is not OK. The length of sit- ours range from 2 nights to 9 weeks- is so very important!! And this precise and accurate information should be restored immediately.

I thought the new, very unwelcome, sit fees were meant to help improve the site?!! I see exactly the opposite happening.. I’m feeling very disappointed and disillusioned with THS..

Many of mine have the wrong number and types of pets, mostly missing 1 or 2 pets.

Some locations are incorrect again for HOs who have moved. This had been corrected briefly, but I guess the new update got rid of the previous corrections.

Also, I think the length of the sit is important. If I’m apply for a long sit it’s important for the HO to be able to see that I’ve done previous sits of 2-3 months. You could include the approximate length of the sit (a few days, a week, a month, etc).

Just wanted to underline the importance of this.
Hosts that leave for several weeks or months tend to ask about experience with longer sits. I know some checked my references for this information in the past, because they proactively addressed specific sits and their lenght in our calls.

For me, having the
location (even if the owner moved since),
accurate number of pets (even if the owners have less or more animals currently) and duration of a sit in number of days (or approximate lenght as suggested above) listed, would be the bare minimum when it comes to usefull information for both sides involved… These are also things I tend to check when scanning the reviews as a sitter.
But that seems to be too much to ask for.

Thanks again for sharing your feedback, and for your patience while we’ve been digging into it.

This feature is still in beta development and your feedback helps us to find out what works, and where we need to make improvements for this feature. We’re continuing to work on getting it exactly where we want to be, but have made some positive strides already. Let me walk you through what we’ve found.

The good news is that in the vast majority of cases, the pet information from previous sits is being pulled through correctly. The issue is really about how it’s being displayed. We’re already working through this: some backend fixes are live and there were more in our recent app update (Monday, 20 July) with more on the way.

In the next couple of weeks, we’re fixing the pluralisation quirk, so “1 dogs” will read as it should. And for chickens, fish, or livestock, we won’t be showing a numbered count at all.

And, after hearing your feedback, also in the coming weeks, we’ll also be including sit duration to the reviews.

Lastly, a small number of historic sit reviews show incorrect pets. This happened in instances where the pets changed within the listing after the sit took place. We fixed the root cause a little while ago, so this won’t happen going forward. However, for that small group of older sits, we’re not yet able to go back and correct the information.

If any of your completed sits are showing the wrong pet information, reach out to Member Service at support@trustedhousesitters.com and they’ll have that information removed.

We’ve also added this message alongside the Beta tag in-app to make that a little clearer;

“Experiences are based on a sitter’s history with TrustedHousesitters. There may be some gaps or missing experience. Always review a sitter’s profile and application for more details, or message them with any questions.”

Thanks again for bearing with us while we get this right.

@Mark_B I can’t remember if this has been reported, but the caption text has disappeared from my profile photos when viewing in the app. Neither editing it or deleting & adding new photos with new captions fixes it.

I hope this can be resolved soon, as most of my profile photos make no sense without the (humorous) captions, since they have no context. As many sitters probably do, I use my photos & captions to make my profile stand out… something that seems especially important now that the application is summarizing our sitter profiles.

@MerryPuppins @Mark_B Because of this post I just checked my photos on the app. My caption text for my photos isn’t showing either.

A long time ago, I captioned all of my gallery photos directly on the pictures, because I didn’t trust THS to display them properly or consistently.

My captions for the photos are also missing, also some of my sits have the wrong pets showing, and some have no pets at all, sigh.

@stephenia, sorry that you experienced challenges with new THS tech.

Quick note to applaud your approach re duration. As experienced, full-time housesitters then we target listings of approx one month duration. We’ve completed quite a few sits between one and three months duration. Probably a different type of character than for a few days. Housesitting works best when it’s a great fit between pet parent, housesitter and pet(s) so kudos for you actively filtering applicant attributes.

We’ve not applied to listings recently but guess that we’ll experience the new screens soon enough. Hopefully evolved by then! Hope that you secure great housesitters.

Mark, if this new technology is still at beta stage then why is it live in production environment?

This seems to refer to a broader issue in regards changes in profiles after sit completion. Some of our completed sits now show location and/or pets that reflect data per current listings of pet parent … rather than location/pets as per reality of our completed sit. Why is current, rather than actual, data shown?

Some of my sits have incorrect number of pets and the pets are exactly the same now as when I did the sit.

I don’t understand why this can’t be corrected or why it is wrong in the first place.

What info should be sent to get the species and/or quantities corrected? About 1/2 our reviews are wrong and need to be updated. All the ratings came through accurately

My heart sank when I saw the reduced pet count on a review assuming the family lost a beloved pet. But then realized that almost all of the families I sat for were missing some or all of their pets. Just another one of THS’s upgrades

Hi @stephenia

If you reach out to Member Services and outline the example(s) of where the pet info from previous sits is incorrect, they can support removing (not correcting) the incorrect pet information being displayed.

@Mark_B The information on number of pets was correct BEFORE this update . Now it’s incorrect across all sitters profiles .

Am I understanding correctly that THS is advising that every sitter (there are tens of thousands ) must individually contact THS to get them to correct the data errors resulting from this recent update ?

Wouldn’t it be simpler to roll back the update so the information is restored to how it was before, when the correct number of pets was being displayed? It would be less labour-intensive, quicker to implement, and likely cost THS less than asking each individual to contact THS to have their data corrected manually.

Do THS even have enough staff to handle that volume of manual corrections?

( For context 5 days ago - I reported a sit that clearly states there are 4 x lodgers living in the home and sharing the kitchen and common areas - this listing didn’t get picked up by MS on at the “verification “ stage and still hasn’t been acted on by MS 5 days after it was reported )

I do not have any confidence that THS have enough staff to manually correct this information across approx 50,000 sitters profiles ..many of these will have 10+ reviews that need correction and some may even have 100+ that need to be corrected !!!

Also since only a small percentage of members are on the forum will THS be sending out an e-mail to all sitters to advise them about these errors and to tell them that they need to contact THS to have the information corrected ?
