Hello from Boston-- I just did an intro but I’m not sure I got it in the right place. I’m new to TrustedHousesitters, open to tips and advice from those of you with experience!

Welcome to the forum @MKMcTigue.
Yes you did put your introduction and link in the right place in your forum profile.
I looked at your listing - Can I suggest that you change the title of your listing to attract sitters who love hiking - since you dog needs lots of walking and you have great hiking trails nearby . That will make suitable sitters stop and look at your listing .
Hey there,
I took a look at your listing for you, and it looks lovely - you’re definitely on the right track! Lovely profile picture too, your home looks amazing. I would only suggest that you add info in your home and location section about your home, as you only mention the surrounding area and nothing about the house itself. Where are sitters sleeping? Is there WiFi? Streaming services? Can you describe your home in a few sentences? This really helps sitters to know what to expect.
In your responsibilities section, I would definitely mention how long Jackson can be left alone for, as this is a key detail sitters want to know. Remember that anything less than about 5hrs is a quite a big ask, so if he can only be left for short periods, mention if he can be taken on car or public transport trips with the sitter to allow them more time to see the area. I would also include some basic details about Jackson’s temperament & personality - is he cuddly? Friendly? Playful? Easy to walk?
Hope that helps and good luck - I see that you already have 3 applicants, so that’s great!
Thank you! I will make that change…
Thank you! I’ll make those changes…
Sit looks great and I’d be an applicant were I not already sitting on the NC coast. Porches look great for reading! I’ve done a few sits in Boston - suburbs to the north and a block from the TD Garden and would love to come back. I’ll watch for future sits.
I’ve added you as a favourite as we loved our first trip to Boston in 2022 and promised ourselves that we’d return sometime. We’re also big walkers! As we’d not be able to take a dog along in a hire car it’d be tricky to get to those nice hiking places out of the City though, do you plan to leave your car?
Welcome to THS! I took a peak at your listing and would recommend that you include more details about the walkability factor. You mention “Ashmont T station”, I’m assuming that means Transit station or Train station? Sitters like us, who travel the world, usually without renting a car, it’s important for us to know how close the grocery stores and restaurants are so walking distance is important as well as distance to transit/train stations. Also, if you are willing and able to allow the sitter to stay the night(s) before or after the sit, I would mention that as well. Best of luck!
Hello and welcome to THS! I was just looking at Boston sits this morning and doing some future planning as it’s one of the spots I hope to visit. Good for you asking for sitters to take a peek at your listing and give feedback. I wish more owners did that!
We highly recommend Boston - there’s tonnes to see and do plus the transport network is brilliant once you get your head around it haha. The Italian Market is great, the City walking trail is great the museums are great. As you can tell we loved the place (more than NYC) where we caught the train from….
Lovely, thanks for responding and I hope you’ll apply for future dates!

Hi Bonny–
We’ve not thought through the idea of leaving a car for the house-sitter to use, but will consider it for the future. There are great places to walk right from the house, but they’re not hiking trails for which in general you do need a car. Thanks for the question!
Kathleen
Hi-- thanks for this advice, much appreciated; it’s hard to consider all the details but I can see that those are things a sitter would want to know, so I can add a few more specifics. Hopefully as we zero in on a match, those are things that can also be asked in the moment…
Warmly,
Kathleen
Oh yeah, I’m biased but MUCH better than NYC! Smaller of course, and with a lot of neighborhoods and a beautiful center city that are all very enjoyably walked…
Kathleen
Thanks Sara! Hope you might be a future sitter…Boston is a lovely city!
