Hello from the Grand Canyon! With several questions

New to the idea of sitting and in love with it even without having ‘officially’ sat yet.

Current situation: Living at the Grand Canyon with Husband and 3 cats. (1 geriatric that Ive had since she was 6 wks; 1 senior; 1 five year old-formerly feral but has totally taken to being a pampered house cat). We’ve had other cats and a dog, who have since gone Rainbow Bridge.

As Husband nears retirement, we are looking at sitting as a means to travel and have great experiences both U.S. and abroad. I am looking into sitting more locally (Arizona, New Mexico, California, Nevada) to gain the feedback and experience to garner good feedback and get more sits later.
I have not yet signed up as a paid membership but will be doing so in the very near future.

My questions have to do with my THS profile:
*What are the things HO’s are looking for in a profile/application, especially if they are going to consider a person with zero sits?
*From my time (hours) spent reading over posts here, am I understanding correctly that I can have friends/family that I have sat for add their comments/feedback even though it was not through THS? I have done this for years, and have friends who still have me return to sit for them. I would love to be able to include their feedback to reflect my credibility.

Thanks kindly and looking forward to the great experiences that THS can provide us!

Hi Wendi!
Welcome to the friendly forum/group!
I can’t speak for what HO’s are looking for as a newbie as I’m a pet sitter but I’m sure you’ll get plenty of useful tips.
As for your past experiences with your friends & families pets they can certainly give you references as part of the set up process for your profile. The more you have the easier it will be for you to secure those sits. Good luck!

Hello @Wendi and welcome to the community forum. There is an excellent resource that, if you follow it and do all that it suggests, it will undoubtedly provide you with an excellent sitter profile.

I’ll clarify two terms on THS - reviews are from owners after you do a THS sit, whereas references are from anyone else. The suggestion is to aim for three references that reflect the skills that an owner would look for in a sitter. I did far more than three when I started, but that’s just my personality. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you! Thats exactly what I was looking for but just didnt seem to be able to locate it myself… (operator error of course  )

@Wendi don’t be too hard on yourself. There’s a lot of useful information but initially it can be overwhelming to find your way around this site and the THS website.

THS now has three options for searching using the magnifying glass, searching key words.

Just a few key words will usually bring up a range of related posts. If you don’t find your answer there, just ask here. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi,I’m new here and I 'll be so gratified to keep in touch as friends …

@Wendi Welcome.
As a relatively new sitter (joined mid may) with 3 sits and 3 up and coming sits I can suggest your first sit or first 2 sits are relatively local to you. Hopefully you get some great feedback which opens the door to sits much further afield.

Hi @manel and welcome to TrustedHousesitters community forum. I’m glad you found us.

I’m a full-time traveler and half-time sitter who has been part of TrustedHousesitters for nine wonderful years. Part of what helps me travel as much as I do is connecting with like minded people around the world, and the TrustedHousesitters forum is a great place to do that.

You’ll soon find the forum is more than just a place to discuss pet sitting. Among other things, you can:

I’d love to learn more about you.

  • Do you have pets? If so, what type(s), and what are their name(s) and age(s)?
  • Where do you call home?
  • Where was the last place you visited? Where would you like to go next?

Our team is here to help, so please don’t hesitate to send a message if you have any questions. If you want more information about joining TrustedHousesitters, we can help with that too.

All the best.
