Hello from the Isle of Wight U.K

Hello there,

I am a retired nurse, and currently work as an online English Tutor. I live on the Isle of Wight, U.K.
Having had many family pets in the past, I am now able and keen to travel and explore a bit, and will be seeking pet-sitting positions.
I love being out and about, and I believe I am able to care for most types of pets.
I have enclosed a few photos of my home area, my son at the local stables and our last little pet dog, called Pip.

Hello @Verena. Welcome to the forum. Your local area looks lovely! How long have you lived there?

One thing many of our newer members do is include a link to their TrustedHousesitters pages in their forum profiles. That way forum members will be able to get to know you a bit, and, if you’d like, offer tips and suggestions for ways to make it even more enticing for pet parents.

Here’s how you do that:

Thanks for joining us!

Thank you Karen,

I have lived on the Isle of Wight for over 20 years. But, I was born and grew up on Guernsey, Channel Islands. (I’m a bit of an island hopper!) The Isle of Wight is indeed beautiful with many beach and country walks. Thank you for the advice about adding a link to my profile, I will attempt to do that as soon as I can.

Welcome Verena,
You live on a beautiful island which I visited many years ago. It’s on my Saved Searches as I’d love to return there, this time looking after gorgeous pets.
Enjoy your new explorations of different places with amazing pets in your care.

Hi @Verena, we are Australian sitters and fly in to the UK on Friday to commence our grand adventure of 4.5 months sitting in the UK. We are starting at Emsworth for a week and hope to visit your Isle of Wight. We have heard it’s a great place. We’ve have never been on a hovercraft so would love to have that experience.

Hi @Verena
We have a pet sitting on the Isle of Wight 15 to 25 June.
If you are around and not pet-sitting then we could meet up?

Hi there Crookie, how fabulous, Emsworth is so pretty, and such an ideal location. You can explore the Portsmouth Navy museums, (Gunwharf Quay) I do recommend them, even though I’m not keen on military museums, this one is spectacular with the Henry VIII ship, The Mary Rose. Added to this you are on the doorstep of Chichester, fabulous old city. Then of course us, here on the IOW, with Osborne House, which was the holiday “cottage” of Queen Victoria. Such a lot to visit and see. Yes, please keep in touch as I’d love to meet up.:+1:t2::wave:t2:

Hello Crookie. I am hoping to do the same in a year or so. Can you please let us know how things go and about your sits? Love to read your adventures. Deborah

Hey Crookie,

We too are looking at a long stint in the EU and UK starting March 2023 in Barcelona and coming back to Australia in December
We know we wouldn’t last all that time without lots of furry pats, walks, trips to the beach etc so have started looking for sits to intersperse with some serious bucket list tick offs so there’s a lot of juggling to be done.
We’ll look forward to hearing of your trip though and would welcome any suggestions you have at any time.
All the best for your planning
Verity and Julian

We will be posting on the forum @Verityandjulian. This grand adventure has been 12 months of planning and much learning from forum members who have been generous with their time and feedback. We are more than happy to give back and happy to answer any questions you or @Deborah or others have.

We met our wonderful sitters today for the first time in person (we are sitters and HOs but this is our first gig as HOs). We have met them a couple of times via video call and chatted via messages. They were the 19th (and last) applicants before we paused our listing back in the days when you could get more than 5 applications, and we are so happy they have come into our lives. They are very experienced sitters who have sat around the world. They gave us some great feedback today on our Welcome Guide saying it’s the best they have seen and wished all HOs were as detailed with their information. We used the THS template WG and while it’s a bit clunky it really guides a HO in ensuring all pertinent information is available for sitters.

All the best as both HO and sitters then Crookie! We are just sitters as we don’t have our own fur kiddos at the moment. Have a couple under our belts on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and a lovely 3 week Spanish sit lined up at the start of 9 months - so looking forward to that.
We will follow you with interest, happy snd safe travels :luggage:
