Even though online renewal is supposed to take the same 6 to 8 weeks for standard processing, I received my new passport in the mail just 12 days after submitting the application. Wasn’t expecting that! Not sure if that is typical, or if I would have had a similar result with a mail-in application, but could be the way to go for anyone up for a renewal soon.

Good to know. My passport expires in January so I’m glad we can renew online. 
That’s an impressive turnaround speed.
I certainly hope they’re as efficient in the UK when I renew mine shortly!

I also had recent luck with U.S. passport renewal.
Time ran out to renew mine amid a cross-country move, a new job and doing previously planned sits in various parts of the country before a sit abroad.
I ended up driving to one of the few passport offices in the country to get a rushed passport. That usually takes days and they’ll issue them that way only if you show proof of near-term travel and pay extra.
I lucked out — they offered to issue mine the same day, because my trip was so close. I didn’t even know they did that. A nice man at the passport office offered to check whether it was possible and it was.

We renewed our UK passports online earlier in the year, received new ones within 5 days despite the advised 2-3 weeks.
It was February though, probably one of the quieter months.

Always good to renew in winter. I renewed my passport during the pandemic and didn’t have the panic that people experienced after lockdown.

We applied online on the Saturday, received email confirmation of application on Monday. Then next day, email said approved and we received them on the Wednesday.
Taking photos was interesting though, “too dark, looks like your eyes are shut”.
Got there eventually.

My husband renewed his Aussie passport recently and it was back in 5 days even though advertised for 2 to 3 weeks.

Asked my husband whether he’d received his new U.S. passport yet, and he said he has — applied online on 8/12 and received it on 8/20.
