Issue with the map in the app

Welcome @Jforgash

@Jenny can you ask the team for an update on this please ?

It’s a major issue and many users reporting the same -

Hi @Silversitters

I checked in and we should be in a position to give a proper update soon  - bear with us for now!

Jenny

Hi. I just received an email from one of the THS help desk folks about this ridiculous situation. I was told that this person spoke with the tech team and that an “update for the app” will be released on April 13, “which will completely fix the issue.” I think we should all not hold our collective breath on the “will.”

Also, I complained and am supposedly getting a free month added onto my membership. I had suggested this go to all sitters using the app (if that can be determined) and, at the very least, an email should go out to all members about the issue. Good luck (to us all).

I thought I replied earlier, but it seems not to have gotten through: I complained about this with the Help Desk and was told today that THS Tech (and we know what to expect from them) will be putting out an update on April 13 that will fix this problem once and for all!

Hello everyone!

I’ve just been advised by the team that the map pin bug has now been resolved for those using the site on desktop.

Anyone affected by this should:

  • Open the map
  • Wait for 30 seconds
  • Close the map and repeat until you see the pins

Please let me know that this works for you

Jenny

PS. An app fix is in the works, please make sure your app is the most up to date version, and I’ll let you know once it’s gone live.

Hi, Jenny; I’ve followed your instructions about a half-dozen times and still not seeing this work. In fact it seems worse…I do see numbers, but they’re rendered in white text, so essentially invisible against most of the background map. Then, when you zoom in, those numbers disappear altogether. I do have the latest version of the app, supposedly. I’m on an iPhone.

Have you been able to get it to work by chance?

Here is what I see (look south of London to see the numerals in white):

Zooming in from there, the numbers disappear:

(Selecting “redo the search” does not make the numbers reappear.)

Edited to add:

Further, if you execute a new search with a different location after that: it seems like you have to start the “wait 30 seconds/leave map & go back in/leave map go back in/etc” process all over again. (After that it seems to be caching the search criteria for that specific location, so if you go BACK to a search you’ve previously done this with at some point, you see the same white numbers. Do a new search using different location and you have to wait again for that one to calculate the listings.

Surely that’s not how they intend it to work (once it actually is displaying as intended, that is)?

Note that this also doesn’t seem to work with already-existing saved searches at all. The numbers never appear no matter how many times I jump in and out of the map.

Additional edit:

Logged out, deleted app, re-installed & logged back in; same behavior.

Hi @MerryPuppins

I owe you a huge apology, as I somewhat garbled the message, I’ve now updated my post with more clear information. This was entirely on me!

The fix in place right now is for desktop only, with the app fix to come, and the reminder of updating the app version shouldn’t have been part of the instructions.

I’ll update again once I know the app fix is confirmed, and again I am really sorry!

Jenny

As far as I can tell the map issue on the app seems to have been fixed, so thank you very much Jenny.

Thanks for confirming @RichardNYC - much appreciated!

Actually, looks like I spoke too soon. This is what I get for a search for Sag Harbor, NY:

Shows a bunch of sits in the area, but map is of eastern half of North America.

@RichardNYC @Jenny I just duplicated the search and this is the result on an iPhone 16.

Wow, that is bizarre. I just tried it again and got the same large-scale results as before. I do have an iPhone 13. Perhaps that is part of THS’ problem.

I’m not a techie but I’d suggest making sure you have the current version of the app and also do the famous turn off/turn on of your phone. Sometimes that works miracles. :slightly_smiling_face:

I also keep current on the latest in iOS versions, but I doubt that would make a difference.

Hi. Thanks for your interest on this. Unfortunately, I do indeed have the latest version of the app and have turned off my phone serveral times, including just now as a test.
