Hi everyone. I just received the invoice for the annual membership renewal. I was really disappointed because the prices have been raised up without any previous notification. I guess in any other subscription website you would get an email to tell you “ehi, we changed the prices, this is the moment when you can cancel your automatic renewal if you don’t agree with that”. What about it? I subscribed (and agreed) for a certain price and don’t really like to discover on my bank account that it’s changed.
That sounds strange. If you were on autorenewal your price should be fixed indefinitely. That’s what I was told when we joined in 2018. Our price has remained the same.
In your situation I would contact THS membership support to question it.
Out of interest how much was the increase for you?
From 179€ to 209€.
I will definitely contact them.
Hi @giuvax
It’s my understanding that you should have received an email about any change to your pricing - I have asked the team to look into that.
I can see you’ve raised a ticket directly with the team so I’ve asked them if they can investigate and get back to you as soon as they’re able.
Jenny
Please share when you have more info @giuvax. Obviously we are all very interested in this. Cheers
Hi Jenny. I did received, indeed, an email on February 2nd to remind me of the upcoming automatic renewal. Nothing about the price increasing. Besides, as Lokstar said in the previous message, I expect the price doesn’t change since I have my automatic renewal enabled. Thank you
I received my 30 day notice of membership auto-renewal on February 25th. I can confirm there was zero mention of price at all.
I received a totally useless answer from support.
Thank you for contacting us regarding the upcoming adjustments to your renewal prices. I’d happily provide some context as to why these changes have been made.
While we’ve never increased prices for renewing members previously, and this was a difficult decision primarily made due to the rising costs we’ve been experiencing from inflation. We want to continue to maintain and improve the quality of service that you and our pet members deserve, and this adjustment will help us do just that.
We are always on hand to offer you further information, advice or assistance so please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
This it not how you handle this. A subscription is a contract that has to be respected. If you want to change your prices you notify your current subscribers before doing it.
What kind of answer is that? Since we never did this, we’re doing it now?
Hi @giuvax
I heard back from the team who confirmed that an email was sent out to you - could it have been sent to your spam folder?
Jenny
I’ve never heard that. I joined in 2015. The membership price has gone up several times since. I complained about it to THS. Nothing they could do. Never heard they would fix the price at the rate I got it back then
Not at all, I check the spam folder daily. Besides, it seems I’m not the only one.
I received an email about the upcoming renewal, they could have mentioned it inside that one.
Hi @giuvax
As I mentioned, Membership Services checked and an email was sent to you, so I’m sorry if you didn’t see it to open it. Your best bet would be to contact Membership Services if you want to discuss that further.
I’m more than happy to help @MaggieUU if they’ve had a price increase with no confirmation email in advance, she would just need to pop me a DM to let me know.
Jenny
There are several wrong things in this answer.
- mentioning the inflation (20% of inflation?? I’m going from 179€ to 209€)
- mentioning “we never did this” 1) because it’s not a reason why you can do it know 2) because it’s not true, as @Bluehorse is saying
- the unilateral change of price (for example, Vimeo, Netflix give you notice of an upcoming increasing, leaving you the chance to cancel your subscription or change plan) because it’s a contract and I have to be able to decide if I agree
Hi @giuvax
I’d recommend contacting Membership Services with these points if you’re unhappy with the response.
The Forum team aren’t part of Membership Services so we’re not best placed to give you the information you need.
Jenny
@Jenny
For those on auto-renewal, an email is sent 30 days prior to THS charging the member’s payment method on file. I received this rmail February 25th so I am still many days out from being charged.
There was no mention of a price increase in that or any other email
Yes, of course Jenny! I’m just sharing my feedback with other users, including you. I don’t expect you to solve it
I did send my message back to follow up with the support team. Thank you.
Thanks @giuvax - understood and I did pass your comments over to the team as well.
Hopefully they’ll be back in touch soon.
I am not usually one to agree to auto-renewal but feel essentially forced into it because I wouldn’t be able to get sits beyond my expiry date. Regardless a price increase MUST be communicated prior to charging. Other vendors provide 30-60 days (minimum) notice of a price hike.
This is strange. I joined in 2018 and was told explicitly that if I kept autorenew active my price would never change. And so far it never has. On my profile my renewal price for May is still the same as always. I wonder why you have been treated differently…?
Reading some of the comments in this thread I’m wondering if THS is now starting to withdraw this token of loyalty that many long term members have enjoyed. That would be very disappointing.
