New homesteaders in Portland, OR

Hello everyone!

We’ve just started our foray into THS with opening up our home. Joshua is an architect and Jess is a chemistry professor. From a cursory scroll, it doesn’t appear there are any Portlanders here. We live in the St. Johns neighborhood in Portland and are looking forward to more travel. However, we also have 6 animals—cat, dog, and four chickens—and an extensive garden. That means a lot of planning if we travel. We’re hoping this brings us some freedom. Looking forward to connecting and exploring.

Best,
Joshua and Jess

Hi @Monkfish a very warm welcome to our Community Forum, thank you for joining us from the wonderful city of Portland, Oregon we have many TrustedHousesitters members in Portland and across OR and hopefully we will have more join us here on the forum.

A family of cat, dog and chickens … many sitters love sitting chickens, the first time I looked after a flock of rescued chickens I was completely won over, they are absolutely fascinating, especially when they decide to come and supervise the cooking.

Enjoy being here, we’d love to see some pictures of the family and look forward to sharing in your TrustedHousesitters journey.

Hi Monkfish!
I’m just up the road in Seattle. I have stayed in Airbnbs in St. Johns and really loved the neighborhood.

A post was merged into an existing topic: What’s your top tip for new house sitters?

Hello @Monkfish and welcome :wave:t2::slightly_smiling_face:

Hello fellow Portlander!

I’m in the Beaverton area and just joined THS. We are in a small condo so will only be sitting for now. Your compound sounds awesome! How fun to have all those animals. We have 2 cats and foster animals as well. Our dog passed away in July, so hoping that being able to travel while hanging with animals will help fill the void of not having our dog for adventures. Hopefully you find some time to get away!

Hi @Valerie welcome to our forum from Portland, I’m sorry to hear that you beloved passed away in July, pet sitting is a wonderful way to have pets in your life once again.

Thank you also for fostering, it must be hard sometimes to say goodbye but giving animals a second chance to live their best lives is such a caring and important thing to do as so many have such a difficult time in shelters.

Enjoy being here on the forum and connecting with other members … many from your part of the world.
