I know we have discussed this on the forum many times before but just thought I would post today’s example.
I get quite excited when the message ‘New Saved Search Results’ appears in my emails but rarely do they fit with that saved search! For instance, I’ve a saved search for Hay on Wye for particular dates in May and these popped up. They are all a long way from Hay on Wye where I’ll be volunteering at a festival for 10 days, so I don’t want to drive 70 miles each way from Cardiff thank you!
Yes, it’s quite frustrating. It’s also really frustrating to get random “sits we think you’ll like “ in the middle of your search results, when they don’t fulfill any of the criteria selected.
It’s like feeding false hopes just to get frustration.
That’s really frustrating @Smiley that you and so many others (me included) have to put up with this inaccuracy. I’m assuming there are no actual listings in Hay-on-Wye for your date range so nothing should be displayed in your saved search. Do hope you find one.
I visited Hay-On-Wye in November @Smiley. What a gorgeous village with lovely bookshops. I bought a beautiful handmade silver bangle from a small shop. I’d love to go back. I hope you have success getting a sit there.
I searched for sits in Somerset and whilst Somerset sits did come up so did many in neighbouring counties and, wait for it, a neighbouring country ie Wales! And not just over the border either. It is absolutely infuriating and a complete waste of time having to scroll through, especially when you don’t recognise the name of the town or village so have to actually look at the map on the listing.
Getting a house sit in Hay over the festival will sadly be highly unlikely (as you know) albeit super annoying the alerts are suggesting otherwise. It’s a shame I no longer live there @Smiley or we could hang out in our high viz steward vests And yes, @Crookie it’s a magical place, I loved my time there. #happyhay
Thanks @Crookie, I’ll just have to camp again! I used to use a pop festival type tent but it got harder crawling in and out! Now I’ve got a Berghaus 4 person inflatable tent! I recently bought myself a Berghaus inflatable mat as my Thermorest had had it!
We find THS search function (saved or non-saved) is poorest when striving to seek listings in a very specific geography. As you rightly observe, THS platform applies some form of geography algorithm within each listing or within search function. Some platforms that depend on geography - e.g. Facebook marketplace - return results within user-selected geographic area and thereafter include section of results that are reasonably close to user-selected geography. Makes sense and experience friendly. Alas not the case for THS.
Have fun at the festival. There’s typically oodles of housesits in Bristol area but that’s not very local given pet care and two-way travel. Good luck!
