Not receiving housesit updates anymore?

I just wondered why the housesit updates have stopped? At one time pre covid, there were daily worldwide ones, which I much preferred. As travel has now opened up again, it would be good if these restarted. It is more of an effort trying to find them, if having to log in each day and enter a country into the search. With the updates a country may have come up that I had not thought of. But the updates during and after covid, had dwindled, to me just receiving a couple of random sits in the UK, which never seemed to be what I was looking for. Ones I did apply for, had never come through on any updates I had received. However I have now not recieved any updates at all for the last couple of months. Just wondered if they have completely stopped and why? Please bring back the daily worldwide ones. Thank you.

I think the answer you will receive is to set up a “Saved Search” with Anywhere as the destination.
You will then receive a daily email with worldwide ones on it.
What is different is that the list is then never ending so you don’t know when you stopped searching the day before.

Hi @Visit

A welcome back to the forum.
The daily alerts were discontinued a year or so ago, and as @Itchyfeet suggests, the best way forward is to set up saved searches.
If you set up saved searches on the website, you will receive a daily email if there are new listings. If you set up a saved search on the App, you will receive instant notifications of new sits that come through. You would see all your saved searches on both the Web and the App. You could set up a Saved search for Anywhere on the website and perhaps more specific locations on your App for those instant notifications.
I hope this helps clarify a bit better.
Best wishes
Therese

Hi I know the daily aletrts were discontinued a year or so back but I was still recieving the odd couple of sits that were supposedly from favourites but have never set any and no idea how? These stopped a couplke of months back, so now no alerts whatsoever. I still struggle with actually putting dates in as takes numerous attempts to get a green line going over all the dates. It is usually only little light blue squares. Have given up on that. Buit how do I set favourites to worldwide? And would this then generate alerts? This is just on laptop as phone does not have capacity for lots of apps hence only have WhatsApp. Many Thanks.

Hi @Visit
I’m sorry you’re having problems. You need to click on your first date and then only click on your end date, this then “greens” out the entire date duration, and you can then save this under your searches. You can do this with an ‘AnyWhere’ search, which will give you a worldwide search email.
With regards to the “favourites,” unfortunately, when pet parents/owners adds new dates, this only comes through on the App as a notification. These are not sent by email.

Hi Therese, The blocking out in green appears to be working now. It never did before. I would click on first date and then the end date and the first date would click off and I would just have a date of one day , jsut the end one come up. Other than that little faint blue squares. Will keep my fingers crossed that it continues to work OK. As to the daily alerts though, I do think it would be better if they did start up again. There seems to be a lack of sitters this year and have had numerous home owners contact me desperate for somebody to sit for them. Unfortiunately in most cases I have been unable to. If a daily alert came through, more people are likely to glance at these and may spot a sit that jumps oiut at them, as one likely to want to do. I do not have time to keep logging in each day checking what may be available and only do so now and again. I could easily miss a last minute one, where I could have helped out. In fact I did earlier in the year, as suddenly spotted one I could do last minute, and only a couple of days away, but by the time I contacted the owner they had given up on anybody applying and made arrangements with family friends instead. If I had received an alert, when that sit first listed, about a week or more previously, I would have applied and they would have been saying that Trusted Housesitters worked for them, instead they were saying it failed. The daily alerts made a big difference, as i did always look throiugh them each day.

Hi @Visit
I am so pleased that the date duration seems to be working better. If you have further problems, please feel free to email support@trustedhousesitters.com who will be happy to help.
I see you have set up some worldwide saved searches, which is wonderful. These are essentially the same as the previous daily alert email.
Enjoy perusing the various new listings.

For the last few weeks I haven’t been receiving notifications on my phone about my ‘saved sits’.

If was working wine previously. I checked the settings and ‘notifications’ is on.

But I don’t receive them. Anyone else experiencing this?

Hi Rhe,
This was the problem I have had. Despite the fact that the really good daily worldwide sit notifications all stopped, when covid came along, I was then still receiving, so called favourites in regular e-mails. Haved not had any notification of any sits for the last couple of months now.

Have copied and pasted a couple of the notifications I was receiving but then all stopped.

This is just three I received daily 19th, 20th and 21st August, 2022. Haven’t copied too well but gives an idea. Now not receiving any at all.

A big welcome to the forum. Thank you for posting.
I am not sure why this should be happening, and if I can suggest that, when you are next on your App, delete the saved searches and make some new saved searches for your criteria once again. I would also make sure that you are on the latest version of the App.
I hope this helps and you start to get your notifications again.
Best wishes

I am not using any Apps and never have, My notifications were just coming to my email inbox and being viewed on my laptop. And when I was receiving them I had not saved any searches. All notifications just stopped a couple of months or more ago. A shame the worldwide ones, listed in country alpahbetical order that stopped when covid hit could not now start again, especially as travel now getting back to normal. I always read these.

Hi @Visit
I wanted to mention, that I have re-subscribed you to our ICloud, as for some reason you were unsubscribed. Please do reach out to membership services if this is still not working.

Hi Therese,
Many thanks, It seems to be working now, as am reeiving updates again. It was always much better, when they came through in country, alphabetical order though. But better than nothing.

How long does it take to receive an alert? I saw in the general list more than one hour ago 2 sits in France, I have an alert for France in general and a separate alert for Occitanie, for which I should receive another one. Till now I haven’t received anything.

For completion of my question, I have taken screenshots of these sits and how the page with my alert looks like.

Hi @Lieve
Although it is not an exact science, the notifications on your phone should arrive within a 1-2 hour period.

I have noticed lately that when I select the 'Find a house sit’ link I get a lot of UK and US sits, and only a smattering of others. However if I type in Berlin for example, I get all of the current listed sits in Berlin which are not shown in the list of ‘Find a house sit’ link. I did contact THS via support and was told that was the way it worked. So based upon my experience, I now use a combination of those search functions - ‘find a house sit’ and specifically search for a location. It certainly has made a difference to the number of sits that are available.

The only problem I see with this is that I no longer get notifications of places I have never thought of house sitting in as my search is only for places i know.

A big welcome back to the forum @prholst. It’s nice to see you back.
If you save a search for “Anywhere” on the website, you should get an email once a day for all the new listings worldwide. I would say, that the UK and US are the more dominant listings.
It is also quite nice to use the map on the Anywhere search, as this gives you a quick visual to zoom in to other areas of interest besides the UK and US.

Thanks Therese. In all my years I have never used the MAP. By using it will certainly highlight places I had not thought about.

You indicated that the ANYWHERE alert will also show ALL house sits. I do not experience that at all and invariably look at the results from that quite close then search specifically for a place (eg Berlin) for the true list. This was what I was told would happen from my support query a few months ago.

Regards
Peter

PS nice to see you are still actively involved with THS.
