Permalink to Profile Even When Location Changes

I’d love to have a “permalink” to my THS profile that works no matter how often I change my location.

I recently tried to make business cards with my profile link and contact info, since I’m often asked for it on the go. But I change location frequently—three months in Europe, then California, then Montana—which helps me get relevant invites from hosts.

The problem is, my location seems to be part of my profile’s web address. If I make a QR code or short link, it breaks when my location changes. Even using the profile’s ID number alone doesn’t seem to work.

Is there a way to create a link that always works?

Do you really WANT all of those extra sits outside of THS, whose dates you may not be able to even do? If not, just use your refer-a-friend link instead, that never changes, you’ll get 2 months free each time, and they’ll get 25% off.

I’d love a simple, permanent link to my THS profile that I can share on a business card. Since I split my time across different states and countries, I need to change my profile location often—and every time I do, the web address for the profile changes too.

The “refer-a-friend” link only leads to a promo page, not my profile, and because you can’t search sitters by name—only by location—it’s nearly impossible for people to find me. I even tried setting my location to Monowi, Nebraska (population: 1!) thinking that would be memorable and I’d be the only sitter there. But THS still shows dozens of “nearby” sitters!

Has anyone found a clever workaround—a shortlink, redirect page, or anything—that always points straight to your THS profile regardless of selected location?

@KittySitter - This comment was made by a THS staff member on a different thread last year

“I wanted to confirm, that if you had saved your url, and then changed your location, and then you do a search under your ‘old’ url, it will automatically default to your new url. So please don’t worry, your profile will always come up correctly.”

Just tested it and it works! Thank you SO much, @Colin

Another option might be to have something like a Carrd, Linktree, or similar social page where you can manually edit links to your profile (and also your email address, availability, etc. if you wanted). Then you could just give out a short link and it’d have all your info in it.

I had never heard of those - thanks!

You actually can remove the location part from the URL altogether.

I have moved like four times since joining THS. You can actually remove the location part from the URL altogether because the identifying part is the number at the end.

So instead of:

https://www.trustedhousesitters.com/house-and-pet-sitting-assignments/<country>/<state>/<city>/l/<unique_number>/

you can use:

https://www.trustedhousesitters.com/house-and-pet-sitting-assignments/l/<unique_number>/

Take a look at my listing link in my profile as an example. Similarly to what @Colin said, when the page loads the URL does automatically update to include the location part. So it doesn’t really matter, but I like using the second method because it’s so much shorter and cleaner

This is exactly what I was looking for, to convert into a short link! I had tried that myself but left out the /l/ part, so it didn’t work. Thank you SO much!

If you’d like it to be even shorter on your business cards, there’s a site called bitly dot com which shortens all URLs to tiny code for things like social posts & small cards. It’s free. #mightbeuseful
