I am brand new to this house sitting possibility. I have no idea what the payment should be for the sitter. I have a diabetic dog that needs insulin twice a day and 2 cats that are pretty much feed and forget as the go outside during the day. Any guidance? I apologize if I should have seen this in documents provided.
Welcome @cindyh
Trusted house sitters aren’t paid . They look after your home and pets in exchange for staying in your home .
You pay an annual membership fee to THS to access the services ( which is essentially a matching service ) .
As a host you make your home welcoming to provide if sitters with a clean and comfortable guest room , living room , plenty of space for their clothes and space in the kitchen for their groceries etc
You then make a listing and sitters who want to stay in your location will apply to sit for you (without any payment ) .
In the responsibilities section of the listing and the introduction you should state that your dog requires insulin injections twice a day ( if you require someone with experience of administering these or if you will show the sitter how it is done ) .
Sitters who are willing to take on these responsibilities will apply and you can then choose a sitter from those who apply .
If you want to leave a gift as appreciation , that is welcome but not expected .
For a fair exchange sitters will usually want free time (after taking care of your pets ) to go out and visit local attractions in your area. Include all the local attractions in your listing . Or they may work from home in which case having good Wi-Fi and some desk space will be needed.
Welcome @cindyh !
Good advice from @Silversitters . Key to finding a good match in my opinion is to try to think what a sitter would look for to choose to apply for your sit and choose you. I think this blogpost has some good points:
Injections will limit searchpool, but many sitters have experience also. Just be accurate in description of tasks in your profile. If a sitter is unsure of what is expected they will probably scroll on to the next profile instead of asking you, so a good idea to include.
Lots of people here would be happy to help you maximize your listing to attract a good sit, should you wish to. You can add a link to your forum profile should you wish to:
