Sit cancellation on start day

Well this is a new one for me…
Couple hours before I was to leave for a sit, got a message from the HO that they have a blocked sewer and can’t use their water. She needs to go on her trip anyway and is leaving the realtor to try to find a plumber &/or feed the cats. We agreed on an update later today. I’ve waved off today’s travel and am waiting to see if tomorrow is a go. If no plumbing still, then I guess we will cancel as it’s only a few days’ sit.

The HO is new so I’m trying to help … If we cancel, does she need to contact member support to do that, or just un-click something on her dashboard? There’s nothing helpful on my end – her listing just says “currently no sitter needed”. And technically the sit is underway today.

I tried looking on the help page, but info on cancellation referred me to the novel-length T&C and I didn’t find an answer on how-to there.

So who’s had something like this happen and if we do have to cancel, how do we do it?
Do you call the USA phone # if you’re in Canada?

Once a sit starts, only membership services can cancel it. If it’s on the books to start today, it will technically be recognized as having started, methinks.

What a pain @ABGM. If the sit has to be cancelled it needs to come from the homeowner. Hope all goes well.

@ABGM, yikes. We’ve faced sit cancellations twice, each time on start date after we were in-country but not yet at property. Sucks. Stressful.

Suggest first determine your preferred outcome. Easier to progress with that info.
Suggest contact THS MS. Doesn’t matter if phone call (yes +1 number works) or online chat (to human). Simply highlight situation and yet undetermined outcome. THS MS will start their related processes (e.g. contact PP to confirm facts & assist sit cancellation; determine if other nearby sits available; etc) … letting THS MS do this ASAP may aid conversations if/when PP cancels.
As appropriate, suggest THS confirm eligibility for Sit Cancellation Insurance.

THS Member Services or Pet Parent can cancel sit. Not Housesitter.

If the sit hasn’t started yet she can unconfirm you and cancel the sit. If the sit has started, she’ll need to contact THS to get you officially unconfirmed. There are a TON of Christmas sits open, so you can probably find another sit if you want one.

@ABGM If you have a premium membership and want to use the cancellation plan, make sure the cancellation comes from the HO.
