Sitter needs to cancel a sit

I need to cancel a sit I just confirmed yesterday. I have already spoken to the pet parent.

The pet parent is wanting me to cancel. I need specific instructions on how to cancel. I do not see an option for me to cancel.

Only hosts or THS member service can cancel confirmed sits.

Tell her to just hit the decline button. You will get a notice that she declined you. That’s how cancelations work around here.

If you are still looking for an answer: The homeowner needs to “unconfirm” you. Then the homeowner can “decline” your application. The homeowner can then select someone else who applied, but if they aren’t interested in the other applicants, they can delete the dates and start over so the sit will appear as brand new and shiny.

So it’s a two step process for the owner?
Now I understand why I received a “your application was declined” message after I got the “sit cancelled” one.

Yes. And it’s not well-explained to homeowners either.

@Derbygirl, as others have mentioned then the pet parent (not housesitter) needs to cancel the sit. If they are struggling then Pet Parent should contact THS Member Support - support@trustedhousesitters.com or website chat - and they can help to cancel the sit.

The host will not cancel. Stating it will negatively affect their ratings. They are adamant it is to be done from my end

However everything I see I am not able to the host has to

Thank you for everyone’s help

I have emailed THS support

I wish they had a handbook it would be very helpful

When e-mailing support , Include a screenshot of your exchange of messages that shows that the host has agreed to you cancelling .

Im sure you’ve sorted this by now but a cancelled sit does not affect the home-owner’s rating.

I had to cancel a sitter last summer (because my pet was seriously ill so I cancelled my holiday to stay home with her - I didnt think it was fair on the pet or the sitter to leave them to it!). You cant see that anywhere on my profile.

It would be helpful for about a week. Maybe a month. THS changes over those periods would make the handbook obsolete.
