Sitters saving my listing

I have had 5 or 6 sitters save my listing but nobody apply. I decided to approach the sitters who had saved my listing, but how do I know who they are? I have about 50 people who have saved it at some time or other over the years. How do I distinguish those who have saved it this year?

There are no time stamps, but if you look the sitters who saved your listing on the web page, they are in a chronological order, newest first.

In general, I think many would Favorite a listing if they can’t do the published dates, but would like to get a notification for future dates.

It doesn’t hurt to try, invites rarely works out, but ofc it can happen.

(If one would like more applicants and that would be the reason, then it could have better effect to work on the listing so it is more appealing).

How can I find out if my listing has anything wrong with it and is putting people off. We have had some lovely sitters in the past.

Hi @Sallyann, you can add it your profile here and members can help you with tips & advice.

It may be that there are simply more sits than sitters in your area or its holiday dates. Pop it on and we can help. #communitychallenge

@Sallyann I would love it if an Owner whom I favorited reached out to invite me for future dates. Your situation made me think about WHY I bother to mark Sits as “favorites.”

  1. To let the Owner know that I want to consider a future Sit (current dates do not work for me).

  2. So that I get a notification when new dates are posted for my “favorites.”

  3. So that I can refer to my “favorites” list when I am looking for a Sit, to see if any of my “favorites” are currently looking for a Sitter.

I’ve asked this question thousands of times & there is NO good answer, it’s impossible to figure out WHO saved WHAT sitting, especially if you have more than one set of dates out there, it’s crazy THS hasn’t figured this out yet!

I read your listing. Your home, dog, and area look great!

It appears that you like to build in an extra day at the beginning and end of your travel dates for overlap. This is completely understandable, but you should make it VERY CLEAR in your first paragraph that your ACTUAL TRAVEL DATES are X to Y, but “we would like our sitter to arrive a day early and stay an extra night after we arrive home, just in case there are any travel hiccups.” Something like that.

If you already have your travel plans booked, you could state that “we will leave our home at 8 am on X date and return at 5 pm on Y date if all goes smoothly.”

Some sitters don’t mind spending time with owners, while others may not feel comfortable doing so.

Where would you put this, I can’t find an obvious place? We do this because 2 sitters have only just made it before late the night before, and 2 have actually gone before we got back, even though they had agreed to stay overnight. In one case we had to come back early and had to arrange with a neighbour to care for Ben in the time before we got back. We have also been held up by up to 6 hours in traffic on the motorway and don’t want Ben to have been left for all that time if the sitters left after breakfast.

So do your sit dates include the handover time already @sallyann? If so, add a sentence in the welcome/intro that says “We like Ben (& us) to meet our sitters in person before we travel so please note we have built in an overnight handover day which we can chat about.” Or similar. And then it’s up front. FWIW we always do overnights pre dog sits so your sitter that was “surprised” might have only done local sits or not many of them? We have friends down the road in Millhampost, lovely area for a sit! #bestofluck

You are smart for building in overlap days. This is completely understandable.

I would place these details in the very first paragraph of your listing.

WE HAVE NEVER HAD AN OVERLAP WITH A HOST.

Everyone has different situations and personalities. When you provide these details in your listing, you are more likely to match with a perfect sitter!

Hi Garfield, I had a go at inviting someone who had saved my listing. She was delighted and after some correspondence and a video call it’s all fixed up. It is well worth it.

So happy it worked out for you. I have said no to all invitations I’ve got, but ofc sometimes the dates will align, and nothing is better than getting a good match!

Because of your listing and all the good reviews about you folks, your area and your lovely dog, I would certainly save it as well. Just wish I lived closer . I have accepted about 3 sits I’ve been invited to, so it does work sometimes. I’ve also had to decline about 100 or so as the dates just dont line up or the sit is really short and my travel costs would be too much. Glad you found someone.
