Sitting --> Spending

A miniature version of this for jewellery would be to die for!!

My favorite sit has the Breville Grind & Brew coffee maker and it changed my liiiiife. It’s not cheap so I hesitated on it for a while, but am so happy to have the same coffee maker at home now.

In addition to various spices new that I’ve discovered doing sits, I am totally addicted now to Heinz Mayorachi sauce!

Randomly: a cherry pitter

That reminds me: cheese parer

Since we have a small cookingplate, we always struggled to get three (frying)pans on it. Mostly, because of the handles were interfering with eachother

So after we saw it at a housesit we bought:

A set of frying pans with removable handles. :100::white_check_mark:

It also fits better in the cupboards, because of the removable handles…

Oh I love this thread, so relatable! I’ve definitely fallen down the “sit it, love it, buy it” rabbit hole more than once. One standout for me was a rechargeable electric lighter. I used it constantly to light candles during a sit and ended up buying one the day I got home. Game changer.

Another thing I picked up from a sit was the habit of using reed diffusers instead of sprays. They give a constant, subtle scent that feels way more luxurious. Since then, I’ve been a bit obsessed with finding the perfect scent. I recently ordered a few from Aroma Paradise, they have some really elegant blends that aren’t overpowering. The sandalwood and jasmine one in particular made my living room feel like a spa.

Also: collapsible salad spinner, proper chef’s tongs, and one of those touch activated lamps. It’s funny how the little comforts really stick with you.

Curious to see what else ends up on people’s lists, my wishlist is definitely growing by the scroll!

I fell in love with Hexclad pans on a sit. Not only did I buy one, I now travel with it.

cannot stand the smell of those plug in air freshners. I put them all in a closet.

Sharp knives, large silicone ice trays… also sometimes pet owners leave me food I’ve never tasted before and I like it so much I then buy it in the local supermarket to take home (Italy sit).

Heated toilet seat….not sure if we will buy one, but we loved sitting Hana the standard poodle multiple times!

Heated mattress pad is the bomb! Preheat the bed before climbing in…

I had a heated toilet seat on my last seat. It was very nice.

BTW Global knives (with the dimpled handles) whilst beautiful knives aren’t very durable the ‘lifetime guarantee’ isn’t honoured by the company who claim it’s only for 10 years! They mustn’t be washed in a dishwasher EVER. They shatter if affected by heated washing…. we had x10 knives and x4 shattered or cracked over a period of 15 years. They’re no longer sold in the UK (a few outlets have old stock).

I’d be interested to know when they are going to be discontinued as I am looking to expand my set and so far have seen a number of outlets in the UK still offering them for sale - whether this is old stock I don’t know but they seem to have a full range so not sure of the time frame for discontinuing their sale. If they are to stop being available I’ll buy them sooner rather than later - I would never put them in a dishwasher (I think this is mentioned in the care instructions when purchasing) and so far have been very happy with them.

I don’t sit full time and as a sitter I haven’t spent much. We got a great inflatible mattress pad that we stored in the trunk (boot to the UK) of our car, BUT the car got broken into and it got lifted! We never replaced it. We could probably run out to a Walmart and get something similar if needed.

As a host, however, I often spend a few dollars here and there in an attempt to make my home more comfortable for guests. The most recent purchase: A couple of hotel style portable/foldable suitcase holders. The advantage of two is not only for couples. I can put one in front of each bedroom closet as a further subtle reminder not to use the bedroom closets as I have some “reserved” closet space in the hall coat closet.

The manufacturer found that quality control was difficult in terms of the design in that the blade and handle were all in one piece. This meant the area where the blade transitioned into the handle often developed stress micro cracks internally, and this led to the knife breaking. The knives are also not drop or impact proof, so one can shatter if you drop one….i dropped my long global knife sharpening tool it cracked in half.
I still have many of mine but personally wouldn’t buy more as the company didn’t honour its ‘lifetime’ guarantee. .
