TH is deleting URLs in messages

So I applied for a pet sit, and the pet parent wants to meet up on Zoom, so I send them a Zoom link. And TH deletes the URL! I try again, same thing!

So we exchange emails and set up the zoom meeting.
Fine. But I do not always want to share my emails without a sit being confirmed.

And I get on chat with TH and am told:

“As part of an ongoing security audit, we have temporarily removed the ability to send links and URLs via the member inbox. Over the coming days, we will reinstate the ability to add these.Please rest assured that there is nothing to be concerned about, and regularly audit our platform to ensure it is as secure as possible for our members.”

Really? And no warning that this was going to happen?

What can be more basic to the point of TH than HO and sitters trying to set up a meeting?

Ugh.

THS was attacked yesterday, with various members receiving scam messages. So THS is being careful while it figures how to mitigate. To protect your contact info, you can easily set up a new email address.

I noticed this yesterday, was the first time I’d tried to send a link. Glad to hear it’s not normal.

What did they do exactly? Is it just that it is not clickable anymore? Or did they remove anything with “http”? Such measures one can circumvent quite easily by editing the url a bit. The recipient must then do some copying, pasting, and editing.

A better measure would be to block the sending of massive numbers of invitations with the same text. THS does not want to tell how many members their system sent phishing messages to, but it seems that there was no limit at all.

@Zeefriend
An update was published on another thread yeaterday which included the following…

“We’ve temporarily removed the ability to share website links within the messaging functionality. We will be reintroducing this once we have completed a review of this functionality.”

Now that I know why this is happening (thanks to other sitters) I wonder why I was told by TH: “rest assured that there is nothing to be concerned about” (from whose perspective? Is there a gaslit emoji?) “and regularly audit our platform” (this implies it is business as usual, when it is def not.). I would’ve appreciated a proactive announcement from TH about this temporary change, instead of having to figure out how to connect with the pet parent another way, and instead of having to jump through virtual chat’s hoops to finally chat with a live person to find out what is going on…

What kind of scam messages did members get? I didn’t get anything.

Check on the THS news section of this forum, there’s a thread
