The host has threatened to file a complaint with THS about me

When I wrote my comment that I still stand by I had no idea who the PP was. After coming back and reading all the comments I figured it out. I went and read both reviews. His sounds much more believable and written very well. Plus it was extremely generous of him to pay for your flight because you mentioned financial difficulties. Reading your reviews I see this is the 2nd host that left you one star. Had a lot of the same complaints with you. I really wonder why you do house and pet sitting. You don’t seem to be an animal lover and have little concern of causing financial and emotional drama for the PP. it’s not always about you. No other sitter that left reviews had problem with the dog barking. Maybe another way of traveling would be better for you. I feel bad for the PP having to rearrange their trip because of a barking dog. Seriously!

It appears so, yet this entirely contradicts the claims so often made by this HO on these boards?

Well, the HO claims were that they had tons of interest on a listing.

They could not secure a replacement sitter at the last minute even though they tried, so they did have reservations about moving forward with this sitter (and not everyone has a fully free month to fly to Greece on a few days notice, so that’s understandable).

They needed a sitter to not cancel at the last minute as they have no plan B in that event. And yet they selected a sitter who had a recent prior one star review for leaving a sit early. The HO continues to not understand how to make a proper match.

What a mess……and something is missing here.

There are more pieces to this puzzle which would help us to understand YOUR truth about the situation. Their truth and THE truth will understandably remain unknown here.

I understand @Happypets but on this occasion I think the situation was different and he had no option. I had seen his listing at the particular time and he hadn’t received the amount of applications he normally would due to his listing being a little confusing that time and very short notice hence he probably went against his own ethics. He did also stress the importance of a commitment.

That remains to be seen……

@Henry_R I guess this is the crux of this thread.

If the pets displayed problematic behaviours which were not detailed in the listing, and which made the sit untenable for you, and if you communicated and documented the situation and the agreed course of action (i.e. to leave the sit at a certain time, on a certain day) with transparency and in agreement with the HO, all should be fine as far as THS are concerned. They might investigate the situation, which I believe would mean you can’t apply for sits until they’ve conducted some enquiries.

Nobody can force you to reimburse money for the flights, since that was an arrangement made between you and the HO. This is assuming you didn’t insist upon receiving payment to facilitate the sit (which would get you booted off the platform, since it’s against T&Cs).

And I thought that Tinder had the market on bad matches !

Clearly they both should swiped right (or left? I don’t use Tinder so whatever the one is to move onto the next!!!)

I have misgivings that this sitter ever wanted to do this sit at all.
IIRC, before the sit even started, the HO contacted the sitter about his passport potentially not arriving in time and he might have to delay the start of his trip. The sitter was upset and brought up cancelling.
Next, the miscalculation of Schengen dates and the sitter wanting the HO to find a replacement for part or all of the sit.
Next, the sitter citing being short of funds so the HO paid for the flight. Perhaps that was just another excuse to try and get out of the sit.
Up next, the sitter seeming to give up pretty easily on a sit with a barking dog.
Oh and did I mention that the sitter already appears to be on another sit when in theory she should have still been on the sit-that-went astray? Be interested to know if the current sit is in a non-Schengen area.
I am just saying that this is a LOT to ponder. (And no I am not from Missouri)

Goodness, am I reading the Enquirer?

So entertaining!! :joy:

Heck, where did that come into it? Must have missed that part…

Would have been a post from the HO in mid-February. You are correct that you didn’t see it in this or the barking dog thread

Is OP on another sit now? I wasn’t clear on what they did once they left the sit early.

I’m wondering too since OP seemed to be surprised reading the code of conduct (just now?!?) that it had to be extraordinary circumstances. So, maybe they were trying to find what would be a good extraordinary circumstance? Because maybe they had found a better sit somewhere else? Its an interesting theory, for sure.

And strangely their profile states they have a lot of experience working for and with rescues. I’m thinking that has to be a straight up lie if they can’t manage a barking dog?!?! Rescues are FULL of barking dogs LOL.

Yes, her availability calendar shows as being on a sit now. I am unable to see its start date as dates prior to today (March 13) are faded out. Last day is March 21. The amended end date for the sit-that-went-astray was March 5

Well if OP is reading this at all they should not leave this one early for any reason whatsoever :joy:

Her current sit runs into April. If it’s still in the same country as the previous sit then the initial explanation of why the sit needed to be cut short will be questionable.

There is an opportunity to earn some money from this problem sit as they could certainly sell the movie rights to this story. Sadly it is quite a saga :scream:

No, current sit ends March 21. She starts another March 26 that runs into April.

Ah thanks. That’s what I get for trying to keep up with this saga on my phone past a reasonable bed time.

I’ll wait until tomorrow to read the next episode.

Right?? I’m reading this thread like ā€œOMG, what did I miss???ā€ I haven’t been here for a few days. I’ve figured out who, from the comments, but guess I will have to look around for other threads for the details.
I do also kind of feel like ā€œwrong cinema except maybe I heard a bit about this movie somewhereā€.
Thanks a lot, y’all, for derailing me from the actual work I was supposed to be doing online this evening. :exploding_head:

[Edit: so having caught up, mostly… I have questions…!
It’s unfortunate that the sit seems to have been a fustercluck for both sides. Contacting THS for help ending the sit might have helped, rather than ā€œtold them they had to get home immediately so I could leaveā€.
I’ve never heard of one side asking the other, in effect, ā€œlet me see what you wrote about me so I can decide what to write about youā€.
Why wouldn’t you read the welcome guide before the sit? Was it not provided in time? Always a good idea to re-read it on the first day at the sit even if you did get it well in advance.
Unexpected financial problems can hit all of us, but, if you haven’t got a plane-ticket’s-worth of reserve – and many folks don’t – then maybe booking sits you have to fly to is not a good plan to start with.
OP, I don’t think your lengthy and emotional responses to the reviews help your case. They come off as rather… ā€œyoungā€ …and at odds with your stated experience.
If the stated quotes are accurate, then the HO was blowing smoke and that’s not cool either. I’m not sure the he said/she said belongs in the response to a review though.
Sitting is supposed to be fun, and beneficial to the HOs as well. I’m sorry these sits haven’t worked out for you and hope that you can find something more successful for the sake of all involved.]
