I am in complete agreement with you on this. In fact, I was very pleasantly surprised by the host’s understanding and accommodating attitude toward the sitter (as reflected in his posts about his passport issues and the sitter’s visa complications), as well as (what we have learnt now) the sitter’s ticket issues.
I am not surprised at all that he is furious, and I would be too. What surprises me is the fact that, out of all the applicants the host is supposedly receiving, he chose this particular one.
Another point worth noting is that the dog only began barking after three days. This leads me to believe there must have been some mismatch between the sitter and the dog.
@august I think he had no choice but to take possibly the best of a bad bunch as it was urgent. It happens and as someone else said, not a lot of members able to jump on a flight to Greece at short notice. She happened to be in Greece at the time so it did make sense “at the time”. Here I am again defending him lol
Really? Not fair? After all the problems you caused, this is the least you should do. They went above and beyond to accommodate all your issues, and this is the thanks they receive?

It seems getting the plane ticket paid for, being offered plenty of food, being picked up at the station and dropped back even after having spoiled the hosts trip was below OP’s fee to reach an acceptable level of commitment.
Oh I must thank the OP for finally giving the forum something to laugh about and indulge in with so many humorous posts. Life and the world at present is in such turmoil, this has been a breath of fresh air, despite the kinda seriousness of the topic. We really need to lighten up like this sometimes to give us time to smell the roses.
I didn’t get The other one star review until recently. It was much later on after we had already agreed on the sit. The host told me they don’t usually except sitters with only a few reviews. They definitely would not have taken me if I had that bad review, but I didn’t.
It was from the sit just before the one in Greece. The review wasn’t posted when we agreed on the sit.
By the way, I tried to respond to people earlier, but my post seemed to be taking a while to get approved. I’m also trying to post a link to a video I took of the dog barking so you can see what happened but the post has not been approved.
@Henry_R Did the HO fund a return ticket for you, or just one-way? Since you miscalculated the dates when you must leave the Schengen area, do you have funds for your flight back to the UK? Or, have you now left the Schengen area?
If you’ve sit-hopped to an alternative in Greece, I can fully understand why the HO wants you to reimburse him! Whilst THS have no powers to enforce reimbursement, it seems morally wrong to let the original HO finance your presence in the area for an alternative sit.
It does raise the question of whether you saw a more appealing sit, once there…
The sit ultimately was only 6 days. She had said the barking dog was fine the first 3 days so not much of an effort was made IMO. Maybe 1 or 2 nights tops.
Just to say, you’re not on trial here but you’ve posted on a public forum so will of course receive the opinions of other sitters and HOs. It’s just unfortunate (for you) that many have been able to identify the HO - who is / was a prolific poster on here - due to the location you’ve disclosed.
I hope your future sits work out much better than this one. It’s really, really important to think about best fit when applying for sits, and that doesn’t just mean whether or not the sit will work for you, but about whether you will be a good fit for the circumstances of the sit, too.
Your experience shows, once again, how a false review doesn’t do anyone any favours. If you’d detailed your experience and docked stars in respect of your later claims (pet behaviours, cleanliness), you’d have covered your back. In making those claims solely in response to the poor review received, it reads as retaliatory, so doesn’t help you.
The video can be used as your “evidence” if a member dispute is raise against you . Forum members can not post photos of peoples homes or pets in a public forum without permission. That includes cute and cuddly ones .
Also be aware that all the comments that you have posted in the forums can also be used as evidence by the host if they raise a dispute .
I suggest you take a screenshot of the welcome guide of the sit you are on . You will no longer have access to the platform If a dispute is raised against you . This is while the dispute is investigated which could be up to a month .
Also get the contact details of another other sits that you have coming up .
It would be beneficial for you to re read all the terms that you signed up to when you became a member - as then you would be aware of the rules around cancelling and posting videos of pets and any other relevant rules etc .
