What Features Would You Like to See on THS?

It would be great if we could do audio/video messaging through the TH app itself, to keep things all in one place, and to keep our communications within the TH system in case either party needs support from member services.

I doubt that there is encryption on the text messages that go via the THS platform. In fact, I have always assumed that THS had the possibility to read those.

Sometimes this is a reason for me to communicate via the THS system rather than via WhatsApp. For example when communicating about date of arrival/departure, just in case some disagreement would arise that I would need to get Member Services involved in.

  1. Is there a way to search for sitters based on availability only? That would be so nice.

  2. Would love to have the search criteria remain in the search field when you go back, if you type in a state and take a look at someones profile, you go back to search and the whole world is there, it would be nice to have the state you are looking in default back so you are again looking at that specific geographic locationā€™s profiles instead of the entire earthā€™s.

Hi @Myka

A great suggestion regarding sitter availability search.

With regards to search criteria, and coming back to the place where you started.
If you use the ā€˜back to searchā€™ button on the actual website, it should bring you back to the particular place within your search.
If you use the ā€˜backā€™ button on the browser, you often end up at the very beginning of the original whole search page. I hope this helps and let me know if you find this works for you.

@kikitomato This is my #1 wish as well. I would love to be able to just browse new sits worldwide excluding those same three countries. I wouldnā€™t hold your breath on that functionality being added though, Iā€™ve been harping on about it for over two years and gotten nowhere.

I really hope it happens some day, it would make discovering random new adventures so much easier!

Good point. Iā€™ve updated my suggestion to reflect that. Curious if anyone else has found themselves wanting audio/video messaging in the app.

Trusted Housesitters should not allow owners to make sitters pay for utilities. It states all over the advertising that it is free, and an exchange without cost. To allow some owners to charge sitters for utilities should be deleted.

Iā€™ve definitely seen a need for a blocking feature after having someone who wasnā€™t a good fit apply and after I sent a note back and declined the application, he applied two more times and favorited our listing. It felt like harassment.
As much as I would like to believe everyone on THS is genuinely a good person, there are reviews that say otherwise and I would prefer that those people are not able to continuously apply.

@pergamino you can always filter them by label on your inbox page as ā€œlike, possibleā€, etc. so that if/when you receive another application, you would see it right away.

You can even customize the filter to label how you want.

Yes, thank you. I do use this feature and have personalized it however it doesnā€™t prevent anyone from continuously applying.

completely agree! If they get to know what I look like, it only seems fair! Not that I care what they look like, It just feels weird and impersonal to me to not see an actual person.

Three strikes and you are out for owners cancelling or curtailing sits. Sure, an emergency can hoppen on one or two occassions, but three times is a pattern that should have consequences.

A more granular style sit duration. Currently it hops from one month to six months.

Iā€™ve had several sitters very confused over the availability calendar, where most think the greened out dates are when Iā€™m unavailable.

Could you add a key to the calendar to explain the difference between:

White (unavailable)
Green (available)
Crossed out (on a sit)

I have no idea where or how to post this. If it is inappropriate, you can delete it. The following ā€œwishesā€ of mine are interlated. Would it be possible to allow the THS platform to:

  1. Allow sit dates to be updated when things change after a sit is agreed to? Last year I managed to get confused twice and found out the day before a sit was ending that I was leaving a day earlier than I thought. I had to clean the place quickly and find a hotel on the drop of a dime.

  2. Allow sit dates to clearly state if the petowner is factoring in an overlapping day at the start or then end of the sit. Or, if we have agreed that the sitter will leave in the morning and a neighbor is dropping in to walk Fido before the pet owner arrives home. I am making notes about these things in my calendar, but it is hard to keep track of and I do worry that things will get lost in the mix.

I am actually a VERY organized and detail oriented person. So if these details are getting mixed up for me, they are probably getting mixed up for othersā€“both pet parents and sitters alike.

@pergamino also when you unpause a listing after declining unsuitable applicants all sitters who have saved your listing as a favourite get a message that there is a *New listing *

This has lead some to believe that they can apply again . Maybe this needs to be changed too - either stop this notification going to sitters who have been declined OR change the wording of the notification so it says ā€œlisting unpaused new applicants can apply - please donā€™t apply if you have already been declined for these dates ā€œ

I would like an explanation shown against the availability calendar - sometimes called a key or a legend.
Currently my calendar shows all clear (white) which means I am unavailable but anyone looking at that would assume I am available. It must be very confusing for homeowners and new members.

This is not even a coding thing! Its ONE LINE.

I donā€™t understand why they wonā€™t just include a key! It is literally one line of text to include.

ANYONE WHO HAD ACCESS TO EDIT THE WEBSITE CODE COULD FIX IT IN 1 MINUTE.

It would save everyone so much trouble

It is the same thing with the limit of only three saved searches in the web interface.

That limit is 10 in the app. So we know that it is in the database. It would be an utterly trivial programming task to increase the number in the web interface.
