Wow, fab. Hope you have a great time. I’m going there for small holiday, four days in May.

If you’re into Chinese food, Vancouver has some of the world’s best, because of the heavy concentration of immigrants who arrived pre-1997, when the British had to hand over Hong Kong back to China. They established many businesses as part of immigration requirements and that has snowballed over decades.

If you go to Richmond (a Vancouver suburb), for instance, you’ll find many strip malls with nothing but Chinese businesses, including plenty of restaurants. There are many news articles, blogs and social media posts with food recommendations.

You’re right about buses/coaches being cheaper and I’ll probably use Flixbus. It’s a shame that they stopped the Interflix ticket. I stated rail because the price of an EU Interail tickets was advertised as “starting from”, in much the same way as budget airlines. As most people know the headline price rarely resembles the actual price.

Thanks, it is definitely on the agenda. Many Chinese citizens were brought over in the 1880s to help build the Canadian Pacific railway. They were treated very poorly. Many stayed in BC after construction was completed.

Yes, similar with U.S. railroads and Chinese workers. They got the worst/most dangerous jobs and were treated badly.

With the boom in Vancouver in particular, the gov’t intentionally attracted affluent Chinese immigrants — they had to invest, starting with $500k in capital and creating X number of jobs with businesses in some examples of immigration requirements.

They could immigrate elsewhere in Canada, too, but B.C. weather is milder than in other parts of Canada.

I’m doing an old ginger Tom cat sit in June but the best thing about this sit I’m led to believe is the garden! How lovely to have a week in a beautiful garden where I can sit and read all day. The elderly ginger cat is an indoor/outdoor cat who I’m told might simply ignore me and not to worry

@TheEnglishFlaneur use a bus company called Luxexpress for the Baltics over Flix.

What, no Broadway shows? The only reason I visit New York these days now that I’ve been to their museums.

Broadway isn’t for me.

I have sit scheduled for next month on Chincoteague Island, US. The next island over is famous for it’s wild ponies. I’ve always wanted to go there. I can’t wait!

At Christmas I sat for 30 animals, 6 ALPACAS, 5 SHEEP, 17 CHICKENS, and 2 CATS

Yesterday I was invited back for a week in May, with even more animals this time, 39 animals

6 ALPACAS, 7 SHEEP, ( 2 pregnant ZWARTBALD sheep are returning, with hopefully 6 Lambs, yet to be born, 2 sets of triplets)

1 cat, sadly one has died since last sit

and 2 DOGS this time. at CHRISTMAS the dogs went with their owners down south to England, this time I will have the dogs too as parents are overseas.

I am so looking forward to it

Hopefully the lambs will be born before I arrive, but if not I have helped sheep in labour over 50 years ago, as I grew up on a farm, and there will be a farmer nearby I can call on if necessary.

@TheEnglishFlaneur we travelled through all those countries last September/October by bus and train. Luxe bus was good. We just picked best price time combo and had no drama, except when I couldn’t find my passport on the train between Vilnius and Warsaw at the border. Armed guards checking! Luckily I had it in a stupid place.:person_facepalming:

Starting next week I have a crazy-busy sit-schedule lined up through May, with a number of sits I’m excited for including a kitty-sit in London during the Chelsea Flower show, for which I have tickets (bucket-list item…YAY me!)

Oddly, the sit I’m most excited about is a short one I just confirmed near Bath. Two Springer Spaniels (my heart-breed) in a lovely home with a big garden & greenhouse, & lots of idyllic country walks just out the front door.

While it’s a filler-sit, the dates worked perfectly, and it’s an area I’ve long wanted to explore — so it’s a perfect little recon trip to help me plan for a longer foray sometime in the future. So excited!
