Got any photos to share?

It made me smile!

That is so cheesy! Couldn’t resist!

Yesterday I visited a huge thrift fair in Edinburgh with my sister and a friend, though I forgot to take any photos! It’s so strange to see clothes from my teen years being sold as vintage!

We then headed over to Glasgow, did some shopping, and had a lovely dinner at an Indian Restaurant where I again forgot to take photos.

The photos I wanted to share are of me achieving my dream of seeing the actor Kyle MacLachlan in person - as he talked about his new book at the Kings Theatre. What a wonderful, charismatic guy.

Visited caves with Native American pictographs in the U.S. state of Montana.

Then onto the state of Wyoming on our road trip.

And then onto Badlands National Park, which we first visited years ago and loved for its stark beauty.

Buffalo:

Near Badlands is a kitschy tourist attraction started in 1931 with the gimmick of free ice water. That attracted road trippers back in the days when cars didn’t have air conditioning and travelers sweltered in the heat.

Wall Drug has since become a huge, legendary business. The dining room can sit 530 people at a time and it offers many shops and amusements. Two million visitors per year, with billboards displayed for more than 100 miles away, touting the business. The shops, dining room and attractions now sprawl over 76,000 square feet.

We’ve (Gerard and I Christine from The Netherlands) just had a lovely coffee here during a nice long walk with Ada in Seattle. She’s doing really well and seems to be settling in with us. She also makes us laugh! Sometimes she firmly decides that a particular street is off limits. We have no idea why, but we go with the flow and take a little detour. :joy:

She’s already decided we should stick together, too. While Gerard went into Starbucks to get our coffees, I thought we could look for a bench nearby. Ada had other ideas: we weren’t going anywhere until Gerard came back!

Now Gerard has popped into the supermarket, and she’s keeping a close eye on where he disappeared. It really melts my heart. After looking after so many dogs, we’ve learned to make departures calm and predictable, with a little stroke and a reassuring “we’ll be back.” Having your people away and new people looking after you is quite an adjustment, so we’re taking our time and giving her plenty of reassurance and affection.

Waking to glowing red rock on our current road trip. This scene also amuses me, because our hotel is across the street from a fireworks “outlet.” That’s the kind of thing you see only in certain parts of the country.

This is a small town about an hour from Yellowstone National Park, which is so huge it spans three states — Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. The park covers about 2.2 million acres, or about 9k square kilometers.

The town we’re in is touristy, but it’s shoulder season now. We chose the timing so we could easily travel with our dog (avoiding too much heat), who’s enjoying all the hotels that let him stay. We’re thankful for that.

That dog belongs in 5 star! Ha ha! Enjoy the big dog park too. !

We’ve been loving Yellowstone National Park in the U.S.

Even though we’ve been before, it still takes our breath away. And it’s massive and evolving, so you can never see it all. Photos don’t do it justice.

We took our dog, but not on trails. Pets aren’t allowed on them.

It was beautiful even as we left Yellowstone and drove through Grand Tetons National Park as dusk fell. (We’ve visited Tetons before and didn’t stop this time.)

Luckily, we were going the speed limit, which is lower at night. We had to brake suddenly to barely avoid hitting a bison that crossed in front of us. They can weigh 1,000 to 2,200 pounds.

There’s good reason to not speed in such places. One of the times we headed to the Grand Canyon before dawn, to catch the sunrise, we barely avoided hitting an elk with a huge rack. It was standing in the middle of the road in the dark. Wrecks can be deadly for wildlife and humans.

To serve a deeply engrained road trip culture in the U.S., some gas station chains are stepping things up, providing increasing amenities.

That can include dog parks at some gas stations. This one in the state of Oregon is part of the Love’s chain and offers a fenced dog park — one side for small dogs, one for large ones.

Our dog is about 30 pounds and we ran across a pocket-size dog at this gas station.

The gas station — serving long-distance travelers and truckers — sells all sorts of things, including handmade dog biscuits and dog toys and supplies. :joy:  Some truckers and many travelers bring pets along, so it’s a good market.

Love’s even has an app, on which you can find locations and order ahead, if you want food, snacks, drinks and such.

Also for road tripping in the U.S., there are great ones such as iExit.

It’s free and has gotten better and better over the years. Now, it geo-locates if you’re traveling on a freeway or interstate highway and tells you where gas stations, restaurants, hotels, parks/dog parks, Starbucks, supermarkets and more are, without your having to drive far off the freeway/highway.

You can see many exits ahead, so you can compare which have better amenities and plan your stops. The app even compares gas prices, if you’re optimizing for that. It also offers coupons, though we’ve not tried those.

There also are apps such as these, which show you weather for different legs of your road trip, hours or days ahead, if you want. That’s so you can presumably avoid bad weather. Like we just left a state where snow is expected soon — we hate traveling in snow.

The pumpkin exhibition at Jucker Farm in Switzerland :jack_o_lantern::fallen_leaf:

These are great!

@SeniorSitter1 Thank you! I have a few more photos from Jucker Farm to share. I also couldn’t resist buying the arms and legs on sale to take home and decorate my pumpkin!

The ones with the arms and legs were my favorite. Would love to see your creation if you want to share.

This arrangement could work well with some of the dogs and cats I’ve had the pleasure of dining with!

President Zelenskyy was awarded a beautiful dog. What a lovely present! I know he already has several other dogs too! My kind of guy!
