Took my dog to the cricket ground yesterday before the heat kicked in. Sable found something other than a squirrel to chase ! It was a big bird and I couldn’t quite believe what I was witnessing. An escapee from a Turkey farm. It can clearly fly so has managed to remain at large. Locals affectionately call him Bernard ( after the very successful Turkey seller at Christmas Bernard Matthew’s) we realize though this plucky bird is female so now she is known as Bernadette.
Beautiful flowers @BonnyinBrighton - sweet peas always remind me of my Grandads lovely garden! He was a regular winner at our local flower show. I did not inherit the green thumb! Did you grow these?
@Highfive I am giggling at the turkey’s name
it’s kind of lovely to see it living free!
I thought I’d share this silly photo of Vivian, the stray that visits me every day, as I caught her mid-yawn! I want to try and detain her (temporarily) so that I can take her to the vet and get her scanned for a chip, and see if they can do a health check, as she has some bald patches and a weirdly bent tail. She LOVES my cat Walter, who enjoys her company, but she’s timid around me, hopefully I can get her checked out soon. I’m just glad to see her gain some weight and that her fur is looking more healthy - I’m feeding her when I get the opportunity.
Thank you for trying to take a stray cat to get a health check. The best gift you can give any feral cat or dog.
It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be trusted by these sweet souls!
That looks fabulous @Maggie8K
Lots of watering to be done in this heatwave ![]()
Fortunately I’ve attracted two co workers, who share the load.
Fantastic! What scenery, Art and weather! Perfect location and timing! Enjoy!
I had a great 5 hour journey by train from Madrid to Cadiz. I’m here with a dog and 3 cats for two weeks. This is the Windy City of Spain I think but it’s welcome when it lowers the daytime temperatures.
The home owner is Spanish and the pets helped her decide where to live and what to buy! ( the dog loved the flooring in the flat and the oldest cat didn’t want another house move!)
It’s a penthouse flat with a lovely private patio garden but there is no lift and it’s on the 4 th floor! Lots of exercise guaranteed. The previous owners sold because of a knee problem.. only the top floor residents are interested in investing in a lift. It would cost 100,000 euros!
It’s centrally located and house prices have shot up so the owner and pets are very happy here. I’m so blessed! The flat is spotless and very practically furnished. My wife is joining me for a long weekend and some old friends who teach nearby in Jerez de la Frontera visit me this Sunday for the day.
The pets have accepted me and I’m settling in well. One cat likes to get out and if he gets out he doesn’t appreciate being brought back in! I have to keep on my toes with doors and windows here!
The dog is a scavenger and loves every opportunity to be fed and to cool off in the pools and fountains that abound in the parks.
