Home location map changed

Hello,

Has anybody noticed that the Home location layout on the sitting page in the App has changed?

It used to be possible to click on the location in the map and do a route plan via Google maps.

Now this option is no longer available, or at least this is how it looks to me now.

It changed on desktop recently too, it’s so much worse now. No idea how they could manage to change the map and make it worse than what it was before.

I’m not surprised, THS has a long history of supposed improvements that make things worse. Another recent change had to be rolled back as it was a complete shambles. There’s no evidence of QA and proper pre-launch testing, just look at the search plus launched as a beta 3 months ago. I’ve asked what is happening with it and I’m still waiting for a reply, my sense is that it’s been abandoned as too difficult for the current tech team.

I’d predicted months ago that user experience would worsen. It’s sad to see how much so already. More to come, unfortunately.

Yeah, but membership has increased and that’s what matters.

When we were told that one of the reasons for the introduction of the fees was improving the App, I was very much in doubt.

However, this is a change for the worse.

This option is crucial. Most of us sitters are travellers and need to know even approximately where the sitting is going to be, to see how far it is etc…

It was always possible to click on the location on the map and plan the route using Google maps prior to sending applications.

@Sam_F can you report this back, the map is another change that is worse than what it used to be. It’s unusable in a practical way now.

Thank you @HappyDeb

I forgot to say yesterday, as I now know that the issue is not just with me, I emailed the Tech support. I am waiting for a reply…

Just to add that I DM’d @Mokina who has shared some additional detail that i’m also sharing internally. :+1:

Is it just me or could THS really save themselves a lot of time and money with these updates and just simply ask the community what they think before implementing them?

For example the animal icons,

THS: Should we change the animal icons
Community: no
THS: Ok, lets put extra resources towards fixing AI chatbot and support.
Community: Hooray, this is the best thing ever.

Hi @HappyDeb and thank you for tagging me. Just to confirm, this has been passed back to the relevant team.

I’ve said it many times previously, THS ignore the community and simply make changes that they think best, regardless. I’m still waiting for an update on the new 3 month old beta search plus, it seems to have been abandoned.

It’s frustrating, because there is a real community here, which actually wants THS to succeed. Most companies would pay millions for market research etc, and here it is pretty much free.

When looking for available sits, I always check out the overall map of where sits are within different countries. No map icon is showing up in the app. Anyone else have the same problem? If so, were you able to resilve it?

Hi @Cat-ophile

I’ve merged your post into a similar discussion.

The conversation above refers to a saved search (dates only, no destination) where the world map isn’t offered - when clicking through into a listing, the individual map view is available.

The feedback in the discussion has been passed on.

Thank you for posting the question @Cat-ophile

You’re right, the map used to show up and it was possible to locate the town via Google maps within THS app and make a route. Now this has been removed for some reason in the last week or more.

I posted in here and emailed the Support team. Hopefully this will be resolved soon.

Still no map on the app.

???

That’s right @Cat-ophile

In the last email I got from Support today they say that they’re not getting updates regarding feedback from the technical team.
If they decide that feedback is helpful, they will adapt the changes, but that’s a longer process.
If the change appears, we will see it while using the website/app.

Although I have to say that this is not a change, but a feature that was always there and that has been removed.

I think that sitters should contact Support team and ask about the same if they believe this is an issue for them. So far it looks like it is just me complaining

I emailed them a week ago to ask if the email is still being monitored. No response so I took that as a No!

We are being told communication is key but not much going on internally it would seem. Moderators are passing our concerns back to ‘the team’ on a daily basis so perhaps they are very busy

Thank you for your feedback @Twitcher

They usually always get back to emails even if there is no update, like they did this morning.
