Thanks but Safety Wing is for US citizens, I’m from the UK. I don’t bother with insurance while travelling around the UK but suddenly I can’t travel for more than 100 days & that’s not cheap
Hope so but I see you’re from Germany. I’m from the UK
Thanks but it’s just annoying that we’re all lumped in together, no matter what our health/fitness. So I pay extra to cover people more likely to have heart attacks/strokes etc.
Yes you’re right about flying back & out again although by stopping at the airport & out again could be considered the same trip & you’re still limited to max 50 days after paying extra to increase to 100 days with 183 days total in a year….Again, I’m in the UK
Safety Wing is also for UK citizens @Smiley - I have it #expensivebutflexible
@Smiley it’s not binding to a specific country’s citizens, but some of the 5 providers did have a maximum entry age, so that could be a deterrent.
If you happen to be in the Netherlands, this has been the one to go for many many years already for long term travel insurance, with or without keeping health insurance at home https://specialisis.nl/
I’ve just gone back on the site and they still do single trips no age limit and cover 365 plus days. It’s not back packer insurance it’s just single trip.
My hubbie will be 70 this year and they still cover us for travel insurance. We actually had a claim two years ago and although it was a long drawn out process they covered our additional expenses. We are 100% using them again this year for our cruise and road trip in Canada.
Ok thanks, I’ll check it again
Ok thanks, I’ll have another look
Just checked again and it’s way more expensive than the quotes I’ve got with Avanti and Staysure
Just checked it and yes it looks good although doesn’t cover cancellation of a trip. Also medical cover not as much as most other insurance companies
For me the best reason was that you can turn it on and off and pay for it just month by month @smiley plus add new countries to your itinerary as you go/change plans. It also didn’t care if you were already out the country when you started the plan or how long you were gone for. I turn it on when not in Turkey, Europe or UK. Med care numbers were still plenty of cover in relative terms (esp as we don’t go the USA). Cancellation wise we just buy cheap tickets and booking dot com that can be changed. So far so good. World Nomads was the other one. #keeponsearchin
Yes, it’s expensive but we are sticking with them as they were great when we had our claim. I find their policy comprehensive and no hidden details.
It’s like everything else, once you find something that works for you, you stick there. A bit like THS!
I’m from the UK too! I had no problems signing up with it.
Hi @ElsieDownie
This information is very interesting, however, I’m probably not following the tread properly: which insurance company are you talking about?
Thank you.
I’m also curious as to where you’ll be in Canada, I live on Vancouver Island ![]()
I believe @Garfield refers to US citizens traveling abroad and going back to the States for a quick touch down to re-start their policy, which is something I’ve heard about too.
Might this be possible with UK based insurance companies? Low cost flights might make this a proposition worth considering.
It’s the UK Post Office. Great travel insurance for seniors.
We are doing a cruise up the Inner Passage in Alaska then off to the Stampede in Calgary. And maybe a visit to relations in Saskatoon. Most of the time we will be in BC.
Two years ago we completed a two year road trip round North America, from Key West to Prudhoe Bay in the Artic Circle, Newfoundland to San Diego and everywhere inbetween. We did visit Vancouver Island but were only there for three weeks, definitely not long enough so it’s on our “must go back” list. But there are so many places we haven’t seen. We will get back there I promise. It’s a beautiful and wonderful place.
Well with UK travel insurance policies your trip should not already have started when taking out insurance. They could feasibly say that by landing at a UK airport, hanging about & departing on another plane is the same trip. Not something I think I’d do but understand if it works for others
For a while, we used Genki Explorer package offered by Genki - underwritten by Axa. Monthly subscription basis so flexible. Available, but not cheap, for US visits.
in 2024, given trips we used Axa Schengen insurance to cover UK & Europe (several month policy).
