I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but I’ve had no applications from any sitters. I know it’s user error but any assistance would be appreciated
Hi @knddepledge. Welcome to the forum.
I’m afraid to be of any assistance, we would need to know a bit more about your situation. How long have you had your listing open? What are your requirements? What do you offer?
I think if you link your listing to your forum profile you can get lots of advice on how to improve it.
How to link your listing
Welcome @knddepledge! Can you provide a link to the listing? That might help us diagnose the issues. It could be anything… perhaps no one is available for the time that you need… no one has seen your listing yet… could be that the person that is really interested can’t reach out because they are already scheduled for a sit that overlaps one of your days… this last one has happened to me more than once… if a sit overlaps by even just one day, THS doesn’t let the sitter apply or even message the HO…
Thank you for your reply I’m going to take your advice and try to link my profile to the forum.
There are many reasons why a listing hasn’t gained applicants, but often the main cause is because a listing just isn’t appealing enough or
may have high demands that aren’t reflective of a mutually beneficial exchange. You can give this blog a read to make sure you avoid common mistakes in your listing and ensure it is attractive as possible to gain applicants.
Hope that helps!
Did you manage to get a sitter arranged?
The fact you’re approaching this as ‘user error’ tells me a lot of good things about you.
Hi @knddepledge,
I see you have linked your listing now. I am sure you will get a lot of useful feedback. I’m afraid I am not particularly good at this but will try later if I see you don’t get advice from more experienced people.
Good luck.
I took a look for you. Your sit sounds great, friendly & relaxed. However, there are definitely some things you can do to make it more attractive:
1: ‘Pet sitter needed’ in your title renders itself unnecessary on THS, so remove it from your title and instead put ‘explore Hudson with a cuddly Schnauzer dog’ to grab attention.
2: Your intro is great, gives lots of reasons why somebody should pick your sit, well done. I would just add at the bottom where you mention that he is timid around other pets that this sit suits a sitter without pets.
3: Your home and location section is very sparse and requires more detail to attract applicants - 2 short sentences won’t really do much for you. Describe your home, what amenities a sitter will have, what’s in the area to see & do, how close you are (on foot) to public transport & local amenities.
4: Your responsibilities section is fine, but it’s very helpful for sitters to know:
- Details about your dog’s personality & what they enjoy. Are they playful, interactive, affectionate?
- How long a walk is
- How long the dog can be left alone for
- Where the dog sleeps
5: Your pictures are nice, but I’d add some more, as 8 isn’t very many - most people have 15 - 25. Show the bathroom, garden, etc.
Hope that helps
Thank you to everyone who replied to my query. I’ve managed to put the link to my house on my forum profile and my listing is now live. I really appreciate all the advice.
Looks a lovely sit but I would definitely update the responsibility section with more detail on how long the dog can be left for & if he travels well in a car which would give a sitter the option of taking with them if out and about.
Great idea on the responsibility update. I will try and do that.
Hey, Kay, and welcome! Your home and pet look very attractive, but I agree with others that you can improve it. Your headline is really important, and telling us you need a petsitter wastes that space because of course you do. If it were me I’d use ‘Pool+walk to Rice Village restaurants and shops’. Some people will automatically click on anything with a pool, and being able to walk to things is a fabulous attraction for many sitters.
Definitely include a photo of the bathroom. Sitters want to be able to see where they will be sleeping, eating, brushing their teeth, relaxing, cooking.
Is that ensuite a dedicated guest space? Say so. Some sitters prefer not to sleep in the owner’s bed, even if it’s a lovely ensuite.
Thanks for the great suggestions. Much appreciated, I will revise today.
Regards
Kay
As I see your profile is now, it seems very good describing the things I look for regarding the pet, where I will stay and live and a little about the surroundings. If I had availability for your destination on your dates I would find it interesting for an application.
