Seeking tips: App for searches

Seeking any suggestions:

  1. Is there any way to put multiple cities or states into one saved search (EG: Searching for any sits in NY and/or NJ)? We can only save 50 searches so hoping to combine.

  2. Is there a way to select a region of the US as a search (EG West coast) so that I can find seasonal sits?

  3. Is there any way to create several search dates in one saved search (e.g. looking for a sit from 4/1-15 or 5/2-5/31)?

If none of these are possible, how do others find back-to-back sits without going crazy and ping-ponging around the US (i’m currently exhausted looking sits every day… takes the fun out of things).

thanks!

@corinbarnett, great questions.

Short answer to all of questions is ‘no’.
THS Forum members have repeatedly raised actionable functional improvements in regards THS housesit search function but there have been no changes in recent years.

That said then there is a workaround for Q1 and Q2 - custom map area. On THS ios app, enter New York and any other filters (e.g. date, duration) … results will appear. Now click ‘view map’ and use finger to zoom in-out or manually move search area … click ‘redo the search’. This creates a custom map area for search, that can be saved. We do this for multiple country searches within Schengen area (as THS is determined not to create a Schengen geography for search). Not perfect solution as custom map area is a rectangle shape so may include some unwanted listings.

Re Q3, saved searches are one date period. so your example would require two saved searches.

50 saved searches seems a whole lot. Even as full-sitters that explore listings across multiple countries, we never use more than 25 searches at a time. When our searches become complicated then custom map search often helps. Good luck.

If you discover clever tricks on use of saved searches then please return to THS Forum and share them. The saved search feature is our primary method of sourcing potential housesits.

The map feature that THS uses now is impossible.

Little teeny numbers ( corresponding to sits in an area) are impossible to see and it’s completely unusable.

Hi @LauraLeeG

There’s a similar discussion available here describing the same issue.

I’ve popped a reply over there, confirming that there’s an open ticket for the bug.

@corinbarnett as @GotYourBack mentions, forum members have raised feedback and ideas about improving search. Last month (Feb 2026) we shared that this is something that we’re currently looking at and we will share updates about what what’s being developed as soon as we’re able to.

Thanks for your patience.

Save good places as a favourite means you can revisit sits quickly

Ive not had a problem with saved searches yet… I’ve noticed however that they are not that accurate.

A search I have forManchester uk will throw up places 40 miles away

@Jane66, indeed.

From other Forum threads then we suspect that this is an unrelated non-map ‘feature’ of THS. If we understand rightly then THS assigns listing location as the nearest large population centre to pet parent. So if pet parent enters a village 40 miles from manchester, say in your example, then THS listing simply states Manchester. Whether this is helpful or not is subjective - we think past related Forum threads have encouraged THS to use accurate locations rather than nearest city.

We use THS listing location as an illustrative approximate geography. Great pet parents clearly state actual location (e.g. town name) in their listing. Fabulous pet parents also include nearby facilities and primary transit (airport, train, bus) proximity.

@GotYourBack THS doesn’t assign the listing location, the host does when they create their listing. I understand that the prompt is might say “city” and that may cause some hosts to enter a city 40 miles away, if that is the nearest city. However it is also possible for hosts to enter the name of a small village.

The mapping software used by THS is not really fit for purpose though, and if there are a number of villages with the same name in different parts of the country, it may not recognise them all. This is why some listings crop up in saved searches for one area when they are in another one entirely - the host didn’t check the location map on their listing!

The reason THS saved searches return listings 40 or 50 miles away from the town or city searched for, is because that is how the Saved Search functionality has been designed. There are benefits for THS in doing it this way. It looks as of there are more listings in popular locations than there actually are. It also allows listing in less popular (or less populated) areas to be seen - even if they are not what the sitter was looking for.

Hello everyone!

I’ve just been advised by the team that the map pin bug has now been resolved for those using the site on desktop.

Anyone affected by this should:

  • Open the map
  • Wait for 30 seconds
  • Close the map and repeat until you see the pins

Please let me know that this works for you :slight_smile:

Jenny

PS. An app fix is in the works, please make sure your app is the most up to date version, and I’ll let you know once it’s gone live.
