@Silversitters we have a regular sit where we see red kites over the garden on a daily basis. I could watch them all day!

My inlaws used to have a house in Stuart, Florida and the sandhill cranes would walk through their yars with their babies!

The photo isn’t going to win a photograph competition :joy: but the story behind it is amazing .

The photo is of a white stork and was taken in Sussex this morning from the garden of our house sit .

White storks have been absent from Britain for about 600 years . They have recently been reintroduced through a conservation and rewilding project . They are now successfully breeding and migrating and returning back to U.K. each year . I have been following the story of the Knepp Estate rewilding project and we chose this house sit because of its proximity to the Estate, which we plan to visit while we are sitting here …

What we did not expect was to see storks flying overhead as we had our morning coffee outside in the garden this morning. Amazing .

This is a crocodile that I photographed along the Río Grande de Tárcoles in Costa Rica. Apparently there are an average of 25 crocodiles per square kilometre here! :crocodile:

On Sunday I went to Five Sisters Zoo (which does incredible conservation and rescue work, including taking animals from Edinburgh Zoo in some circumstances, and ex-circus animals). It was super fun to see animals that have escaped deplorable conditions being so well looked after. Most of the rescued bears and big cats were hiding due to the rain, but I did manage to snap some photos of the animals we did see - including the very grumpy wild cat.

@Silversitters we visited Knepp last summer while on a housesit. We were sitting in a bird hide by the lake near the big house. It had been very quiet, except for a few ducks, and we were about to get up and leave when a stork rose out of the trees opposite and flew over the lake and above us, followed by more than 20 of his friends! We couldn’t have timed it better.
