Sit cancellation plan

Greetings All,

Any sitters have experience with the sit cancellation plan? It seems like more of a reimbursement insurance policy. For example, to be covered, it appears to me THS covers “up to $150 USD/day.” Read the fine print…it appears that THS will offer reimbursement UP TO $150.00/day however at 50%. So, if I spend $300/day, THS will eventually reimburse me somehow, some day, some way?

Part of being a good sitter, or actually an ADULT, is to have an emergency plan in case a HO cancels at the last minute. My first sit I did out of town, I upgraded to the Premium Membership thinking it is a good idea. But now when I renew, I may not splurge for that.

And no…the “Airport Lounge” passes are not enticing…I can only imagine how much fine print is in that and if an airport will accept it anyway.

So…do any sitters have experience being cancelled on and then USING the Sit Cancellation Plan?"

No to using the cancellation but but yes to the value of the lounge passes. In two years have used them both. Once in Istanbul and once in Bangkok. Would have cost us $120 and $152 respectively so was well worth the $45 upgrade fee. There are quite a few threads on here that you can search about the tedium and pain of claiming on the insurance, it generally gets a bad rap by members as being slow and difficult to get back. #dontholdyourbreath

Hi @TravelMan where is the 50% mention in T&Cs ??? I don’t see that mentioned .

It’s up to $150 a day so if you pay $150 or less for alternative accommodation that is what will be reimbursed and if you pay more than $150 only $150 will be reimbursed… .

There are some other T&Cs to qualify such as the alternative accommodation being within 20miles of the cancelled sit ( which might not even be possible in a rural location ) and that you have to pay upfront , submit receipts and wait to be reimbursed and the first $100 of the claim is deducted….

The plan was recently changed from Sit Guarantee to Sit Cancellation Plan but there have been members who received the payout when it was called Sit Guarantee.

Like you @TravelMan we also have our own backup plan in case a sit gets cancelled or curtailed … even if you have the Premium membership the plan does not cover if your sit gets cancelled 15 days or more before the sit starts.

There is a thread about the airport lounge passes and whether they are any good …mixed reviews - lots found them to be great - some found they couldn’t use them at their desired airport or that the lounge they choose was poor quality.

£118 doesn’t seem sufficient to find accommodation if you’re in a City…in high season.

I’ve noted this as well re the Lounge passes Please note that lounges must be booked a minimum of 72 hours before the booking time starts.

@Silversitters, I read somewhere in fine print late at night once that it is only at 50%. I read this back in July, 2023. However, attached is the updated version. I did not find the language regarding the 50%, either I was mistaken (possibly, but I read contracts for a living but it was late at night!) OR the policies changed since I last looked. See attached.

I am glad I decided to pose this thought. Again, the airport lounges vary too wildly to be considered reliable, some lounges for example only accept third party passes on Tuesday - Thursday from 09:00 - 15:00. One such example is the AMEX lounge in Las Vegas. But, the extra $90 of membership cost is worth it for the sit cancellation plan.

Thank you to those that cited sources of when this policy has helped.

While I do not consider the Sit Cancellation Plan THE sole backup plan of a travel misadventure, as you still need your own funds to cover the chances of a HO cancelling last minute, it seems to be well worth the additional premium in the event something does happen. I have had fantastic experiences so far using this site.

It is always helpful to hear from members that HAVE used the insurance and what the experience has been. Bottom line, it is a great reimbursement plan that will eventually pay once THS does its due diligence.

Thank you all for your responses!!!

You are correct. Some places I have stayed during tourist season would be well over $400 USD/night if I had to do that. But the $150 USD/night eventual reimbursement up to $1,500 USD is better than a hole in the head!

Only 23 airports in USA are included in the lounge passes. Very limited.

I had a recent cancellation and informed THS Support within the time person. According to support I meet the requirements. Yet, I’ve asked at least three times where I apply for reimbursement and they do not send the information. They keep sending me the terms over and over - no info on where to apply. Does anyone have this information?
