Hello everyone!
Just a fun question today…
What’s the best pet name you’ve come across?
I’ll go first… one of my oldest friends had a lovely lady cat called Schrödinger!
Please share your weird and wonderful pet names in the comments!

I have sat for pets with names that are hard to pronounce or extremely long. Unusual names I always google asking where is this name from. It always comes back either main character in a movie, a mystical character in a TV series or book. I find out a lot about the pet parent this way, ha. I sat for one small cat and they had a framed picture of him spread out on his doggie bed with his name underneath. The name had so many letters, it was longer than him.
My very first THS sit was with a large black cat named Marzipan! ![]()
We’ve sat twice for 2 cats named Smokey and Bandit.
I sat a dog named Mochi — white, springy fur with pink skin showing through, she looked just like a mochi. ![]()
Not really answering the question but when we moved to Portugal I was surprised with the number of dogs named “anda” to only learn later it meant “come here” ![]()
@SeniorSitter1 I also always google unusual names.
We did a sit where the host was a marine biologist and the pets were named after 2 islands and a lake.
We did another sit where the dog was named after an architect (one of the hosts was also an architect). The cat was a blue Burmese. Her name was also burmese and meant blue.
We did another sit where the cats names were the Japanese words for apple and orange.
We have sat for a dog called Moose.
On another sit, the very sweet pets were Candy Floss and Toffee Apple (dogs) and Nougat and Popcorn (cats).
We’ve completed multiple housesits where there are two cats with related names. Mac & Cheese. Whisky & Tequila. Darth & Vader ![]()
Whisky and Tequila. Tell me about your host without telling me about your host, LOL.
I did a sit where the host was into collecting unusual names for her cats (I believe she had a spread sheet). Her cats were Quink and Snetiker. Now she has a cat named Dexter Plugfelder.
Weazel and Tickle. Oh, and Colin. And Hoppity.
We looked after a cat named Leonardo DiCatrio ![]()
Socks and Stripes ( cats )
Thanks everyone, I’m really enjoying reading all your replies! There’s certainly some creative pet names out there, @Els reply about Leonardo DiCatrio really cracked me up!
Anyone else want to share brilliant pet names? If you have a pet with a really unique name, how did you come up with it?
Our dog was named by happenstance: Oddly, after he was rescued and then returned by a family, the shelter named him after that family’s last name.
By the time we got him, we saw in his shelter notes that he had had at least three names. He had sat unwanted at the shelter for a stretch, going by that family’s last name. We didn’t want to confuse him, so we kept that family’s last name. It now oddly suits him.
Had a sit with an one-eyed cat named The Dude Meowski.
Not a sit, but for seven years, moons ago, I had a cat called Pharmaceuticals.
He was tossed over the fence into my parents’ front garden, from a passing car. When my parents rushed him to the vet, it turned out he had multiple injuries and infections.. Such that when the vet tech went to fill in the old-fashioned paper treatment form, the list of antibiotics and other medicines he’d needed was so long it rose right to the top of the form… Right to the box for “Patient’s Name”… But the vet tech ignored that and just headed the column: Pharmaceuticals. We called him Pharmy.
We saw a cat sit where the cats were called Harry and Madge.
These were the names of Mr Itchyfeet’s late parents so we thought we couldn’t resist.
We don’t have pets in the bedroom but for some unknown reason there was no door on our bedroom! So in the morning we woke up to see them sitting on the end of the bed staring at us. It was so spooky, it felt like my in laws had come back to check on us!
What a spooky, but lovely, coincidence @itchyfeet !
